Default 83-86 Capri rear bumper posts-painting

Does anyone know what the code is or what constituted the 83-86 capri's to get the rear bumper posts (2 pieces that separate the taillight area & license plate area) painted grey rather than the primary paint color?
seems this was done on a very few from the factory.
was wondering if a certain option triggered this or if it was just a random thing that had no reason.

    thanks in advance

I had a base model 83 and that area was painted trim black from the factory. It's long since scrapped.
1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.

Wondering the same thing on my 83 RS, It looks like a dark grey than black even in the areas that are better preserved. The window trim and side trim look black but around the tail lights looks more grey.

I thought only the 83 Capri had the blackouted rear tail light area that went all across the tail lights including the posts and the license plate area. I believe the 84-86 only had the blackout / greyout around the tail lights and license after that with the posts being body color. The exception being the ASC Mclarens.

I am fairly certain that the blackout/greyout matched the trim color which would have been black for 83/84 and grey for 85/86. I could be wrong, but that is what I recall from the few 83-86 Capri's I have owned and seen, but I might be wrong.

Neither my Crimson Cat or my 83 Capri L donor car had the black right across. The Crimson Cat was specific but the L was gray and the posts between the lights and licence plate were body colour.

If anything this will be another one of the Ford/Mercury Mysteries! I thought I had only seen it on 83's, but there are a couple in the 84 brochure too. So who knows! The first 3 are from the 83 brochure and the last two are from the 84 brochure.

I took a closer look today and as far as color I would say it should be the same black as the trim.
