Default Anyone seen a P/S pump like this??

I'm working on my 85 and putting on a new rack with new hoses. I went to hook up my pressure hose and it doesn't fit the back of the pump. I start searching Google and what do you know this ain't the right pump. I wonder why this was installed? Also gotta wonder if it's the correct braket.

Should be three bolts on the front behind the pulley that holds it on. Looks like an old 70s pump. If you can post some pics of the front of it, could probably tell you if the bracket is correct or not

There's 4 bolts behind the pulley I got 3 out the other hits the pulley. It's dark now but I'll get a picture of the front in the morning. I'm not sure what the PO was doing putting this pump on there. SMH

Looks like a 70's or 80's GM pump... like was on my '74 LeMans.

If it's a 85' it doesn't look like the right overflow container either. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

that's a saginaw pump, looks identical to the one on my 97 dakota. perhaps someone put it on there because they got sick of the whiney ford pump - though there are ways to quiet them down.

Ford used pumps like that on bronco's and vans as well. Its possible the motor was pulled from one and put in the mustang.

I have that pump on both of my Zephyr's. It came on cars that were assembled with the TRW rack.

At any rate, an 85 wouldn't have had a TRW steering rack on it, they had been phased out by then. Never seen that on a four eye!

That's the later mustang 5.0 fuel injection overflow that attaches to the shroud

There were a number of Ford V8 "heavy duty" options that used the Saginaw pump and also several retrofit kits; they pop up mostly on taxi/police/fleet cars through the early-mid 80s.
There's a lot of info out there if you search the Bronco and F150 forums. I think "Ford steering pump pressure" is a google search that has some info (I know this because I've been looking at pump options for my "hydroboost/Cobra steering rack with an older engine" project).

The pulleys on that pump are pressed on and off. The only way to remove the last bolt is to remove the pulley. You'll need a P/S pulley puller and installer kit. If you use jaw pullers you'll screw up the pulley.

76 bronco would have typically had the older ford metal reservoir pump.

Anyway, bronco is not a good source for a sag pump, unless it was converted to one already.
