Default 1984 Mustang GT Turbo Convertible

    FOR SALE:

    Severn, Maryland
About 4 miles from BWI airport

    $3,500 OBO

    1984 Mustang GT Turbo Convertible

VERY rare Fox body....627 made/93 in Silver

    Silver with medium grey interior
    Black convertible top

    Turbo 2.3L non-intercooled 4 cylinder
    5 speed transmission
    A/C
    manual windows
    Car is all original.
    97, 700 miles

I bought this car from the original owner in 1994.
He had not taken great care of the car and the non-clear coated Ford Silver had already turned to 'primer grey'.
I have always wanted to restore it with a new paint job and new top, but I don't have the time, money or patience anymore.
I pulled out the original carpet which had begun to fade, still have it rolled up in the garage.
Front seats are OK, but the vinyl has split along the sewed seams. (I was going to put '85 GT halo seats in it.)
Dash pad is in excellent condition.

I also have a complete set of power windows and switches that will go with the car.

I hate to let it go as it is a great car to drive!

    Joe

Wheels on the car in the photos are not included with the sale.
Original set of wheels like these: are included

I agree! this is a great starting point and very complete. Unfortunately, He doesn't even say if it even runs so that is the first thing I see right off. I have never seen the car but when I see a 30 year old convertible with no carpet, I have a hard time believing it was removed because it was "faded" LOL. So it needs a top and some weatherstripping I suspect. Then the wheels that are on the car in all the pictures in the ad are not even included. If your buddy is still interested in selling it, I would post pictures of what is actually for sale and state some of the things that are pretty obvious about the car.

You know, the computer for the EFI is mounted under the passenger seat. I don't see it in the photos of the interior.

Thought the computer was behind the kick panel?
1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.

News Flash, LOL. My 1984 GT Turbo runs like a sewing machine and there is no computer under the passenger seat. Has not been since I owned it. I know Brian knows what he is talking about. I think we are just confused is all. Does yours have a computer under the seat I guess Brian?
That must be a convertible thing (which this ad obviously is for and Brian's car also is and which also means Brian knows what he is talking about.) There must be something else in the kick panel on Vert's? And that might also explain why he doesn't say if this car runs or not. He forgot about that rather important little tidbit of information, LOL.

Well, Homester, if you read the ad it says "It's a great car to drive". I suppose that if It didn't run it would be "a great car to push". But if you are still confused I will, answer the question directly.....yes, it runs just fine. And yes, the carpet was faded. Any other questions Homester?

I did assume that the computer's placement in Turbo GT cars was under the seat. I guess it is a convertible thing. I have a Ford turbo shop manual that shows both locations. I wish that mine was behind the kick panel...

When I saw this convertible without it, it made me wonder if the car was in running condition, or not.

Sorry...I didn't mean to cause a schism in the Four Eye continuum.

EDIT: I did check the PDF copy of the 83-84 Turbo EFI manual in the 2.3 section of the forum. It does say that the location for the ECA on the Mustang & Capri is supposed to be under the passenger seat. If not, maybe someone liked it better behind the kick panel, I guess.

Sorry for not getting back to this thread.
When I saw no interest in the car way back in December, I quit checking the thread.

IIRC, The computer is in the kick panel. I can confirm this evening when I get home.

The car runs fine. Drives fine and burns very little oil.
(Power steering pump was starting to make noise last time I drove it.)
It is all original, I did nothing to it except pull out the carpet (faded) and the seats (driver seat's vinyl is torn) when I started to restore it.
Then I bought a new 2003 Marauder and started modding the Marauder.
That was the end of any restoration $$$ for the GT Vert.

The black Enkei rims shown on the car are NOT included with the car.
The OEM rims, as shown in the last smaller picture, ARE included with the car.
If you really want the Enkei rims we can talk about the extra cost with the sale.

If anyone wants more info send me a 'PM" with your contact info and I can call you.

That would not surprise me coming from Ford. Putting the computer in a different place on a convertible. And now we now. It runs great and the Top and weatherstripping don't leak. That definitely adds value to the car. That is deserving of a free bump. Someone out there needs this project surely. Not many around. It was before they all had luggage racks too. Very clean look. I wouldn't come off that price much. It has to be wroth that. I hope so for my car's sake, LOL. Seems like everybody wants a 5.0 though. Just like what happened to Rkuhn's Turbo. Getting a 5.0 transplant as we speak.

Will it make it back to San Diego, California? I will fly out there and buy it when I visit my Sister in DC.

So here's the deal....I decided to keep the Turbo GT Vert.
Too rare to sell for almost nothing!
I have an '88 Turbo T'bird block and a 2.5L Ranger crank, as well as a ported, never been used, Esslinger Aluminum head.
Crower rods and Wiseco coated (skirts and crowns) pistons for a 2.5L engine will complete the rotating assembly.
I had lonnnnng ago bought a Rod's? SS Header and a Garrett GT30 ball bearing Turbo.
I also have a complete NIB ATR 3" downpipe and 2.5" dual exhaust system.
I had the Turbo T'bird intake gutted, rotated 90 degrees and port matched to the Esslinger Aluminum head
Now I just need to source a good cam and roller followers as well as a good intercooler.

I will pull the OEM 2.3L engine along with the T-5 Transmission and keep them safe for future restoration.
I have a 'World Class' T5 along with an OEM FORD Motorsports SVO clutch assembly.
Also have a 3.90 gear 8.8" Rear that will replace the 3.73 gear 7.5" Rear and a never used FORD Motorsport SVO M-2300 4 lug rear disc brake kit.
