Default Jacking Up A Fox - QuickJack?

Anybody own one of these or used one?

    http://www.quickjack.com/products/ww..._QUickJack.pdf

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one as I'm tired of spending 20-30 minutes to get my car in the air for winter work/detailing using jacks, stands and spare wheels for safety. This system looks really easy as well as secure/safe.

My question is about the jacking points. This system comes with large rubber blocks that can be spaced between the wheels from ~29" to ~44" in length. Is this sufficient to be able to hit the OEM jack points on a Mustang? Is it ok to lift the car by the front and rear sub frame rails? I assume this is how all shops lift a fox on a two-post for service?

Nobody has any input about the jacking points on a fox....are the front and rear subframes sufficient for lift points? Is that were most shops lift from with a two post lift?

I have not personally used the Quick Jack, but I have used other similar products and they work just fine. I have used many 2 post that lift on the subframe and that works just fine for a Fox.

You shouldn't have any issues using the Quick Jack in those locations.

    Good Luck!

The book showing lift points that came with my two post lift shows the subframes as the lift points on fox Mustangs.

Thanks guys. I'm figuring the footprint of the rubber blocks being 3" x 4" should spread the weight sufficiently and protect the sub-frames from any damage/evidence cause by typical floor jacks.

Based on the spacing between the front and rear frame rails, I bit the bullet and purchased the top of the line 5000XL model. The platforms are the longest they make, allowing the rubber blocks to be spaced out up to 57"...which the fox frame rails need ~50" of spacing. The 3500 model only spaces up to 43" which looked a little to close for comfort IMO. I'll post up pics in the next couple weeks when it arrives and I have a chance to test it out.

These things should REALLY come in handy on my buddies '88 Saleen Coupe when I need to get it up in the air since a floor jack won't fit anywhere under it.

Use it on his Saleen first just in case you have a beginners setup oopsie!

Seriously though, looking forward to seeing how this works out as it is a pretty cool concept. My biggest concern is the stability of it and car when lifted to full height. Since they are a portable design and they look pretty narrow, I'm curious on how much side to side rocking they will allow. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.

They have all sorts of testing, videos and testimonials. All claims are these things are VERY sturdy with no side to side "rocking". Each frame is 12" wide, and with each frame being 70" long, think of the overall ground contact when compared to a ~10" square contact of a jack stand. Safety is a key concern, but for me its the ease of getting the car up in the air for winter work without having to use two jacks and six stands.

If I plan to put the car in the air and leave it up for extended work, I'll probably put some spare 10-holes under each wheel as a "double safety"

And I like your idea about my buddies Saleen His car has full subframes however so lifting points will be a moot point.

Makes perfect sense since you put it that way. I guess if I watched more videos and thought less about design, I would have had my concerns answered.

Well, the Quickjack system arrived, and after a little quality time in the garage with a beer and some tools putting the hose and connectors together....I gotta say this system is exactly as advertised. Works like a champ! I tested it out first on my DD Sonata for a simple tire rotation. This is going to make getting the foxes up in the air for winter time detailing, oil changes and wheel swaps a breeze! Now I may really get motivated to pull the SROD out of the '82 this winter for a rear seal replacement

NICE! How is the stability? Is it as rock solid with the car in the air as they claim?

Yes....rock solid. The rear wheels on the Sonata get stuck to the hub, so I have to kick them pretty hard a couple times to knock them lose. There was no noticeable movement of the car.

I did not. The 3500# unit is not long enough. I had to go top of the line 5000XL to get enough spacing for the blocks to hit the forward & rearward most parts of the sub frame rails on a fox. The 3500 MIGHT work ok, but based on measurements it was just going to be too close to toward the floor pans for my liking. The XL is long enough to hit by the rear torque boxes and the front part of the front frame rail...way safer IMO.

It is definitely not shaky...very sturdy. It's a no-brainer compared to floor jacks and jack stands. I have not had a chance to raise up one of my foxes just yet. The Sonata weighs 3,300 lbs so its an accurate comparison.

I don't work for the company so I obviously have nothing to gain, but this system works great...exactly as advertised. Once it is up in the air, it has a downward locking safety-bar. I'd crawl under the car with these with MUCH more confidence than jack-stands. One of their testimonial videos on their website shows a guy with his car in the air, and giving it a bump/push to show the stability.

    Jason -
Very cool. I was thinking about one of these myself. BendPak makes one too. Was thinking that route, but with what you are saying this might be the route I take. Thanks for posting.

OK gang...here's how it works on a Fox Just as with my Sonata, it hits the jack points on the front and rear rails perfectly and lifts to a more than perfect height for any work on the wheels or under carriage.
