    Default Need fairmont pic.

This is the needle in the haystack.

Back in the late 80's, I had an issue of hot rod or car craft that had a " concept" drawing of a Futura coupe. It was done by one of the car illustrators that the mags occasionally tagged to do the drawings of " things they'd like to see".

This particular fairmont had two slots in the front leading edge of the hood cut in and were there for the purpose of ramming air in to the engine. Additionally, the cowl had a large sculpted vent in place of the standard cowl.

There were additional body mods, but I can't recall what they were now.

I carried that issue of that magazine around with me for years back then, but now when I want it, i don't even know where to look. I think it was in one of the " annuals" that HRM was doing back then which was a collection of highlights from several issues in one binding.
    ( I think)

I don't even know which one of the two it was to be honest, but I feel like it was HRM, not Camaro Craft.

This isn't the car that had the American flag down the side.

Has anybody seen it? Can anybody remember?

    I want that picture.

Damn... I remember that article. I believe it was by Thom Taylor, he did a lot of illustrations for both Hot Rod and Car Craft back then. You might want to contact HRM themselves, couldn't hurt.

No, the pic I'm talking about was of a Futura sporting a late 80's style mono-chromatic white paint, w/ a 60's AFX style front fascia where the front edge of the hood was modified for air intake. It was part of a section where they were trying to entice the readers to change up the then " pro street" look that every was beating to death.

I thought it was Kenny Youngblood doing the drawing, but I looked, and didn't see anything that looked like that from him.

I was gonna try to do that w/ my hood, but wasn't going to until I had that pic as a point of reference before one single thing got cut. No matter really, I've kind of committed to going with the scoops that I've made now anyway.

The pic you are looking for is in the 1986 Ford Motorsport catilog...it's a Futura/Z7 that lowered with some very attractive ground effects, Blocked off grill, single lens 4-eyed lights and some flat centered tri-slotted wheels. Ford also did a concept of show car that was black with Appliance wheels that also looked good

That sound like it. Do you have a pic or are you working from memory?
    Is this the catalog?

I can buy the thing off ebay for 10.00 bucks, but all I really want out of it is the pic.

If you're not in a hurry, Mike, I've got a copy in a box in the trunk of my Zephyr. I'm at sea until after Thanksgiving, and the car is in a storage unit 3 miles from the house, but I'm pretty sure I can get a picture at some point in the first week of December.

Sorry my memory is off a year...it's the bonus 87 catalog, it has the build up of a 514 GT drag car/test lab, if I rember it also has I think Brian Wolfs build up on his 82 GT using all Motorsports catilog items...must be nice! The pic you are looking for is on page 49. I currently do not have my copy with me as its on loan to my uncle. Just talked to him and was able to locate it and conferm it's in there.

And testing my memory on the black one I'm think of it may not been a Ford build but something from CarCraft or HotRod in the late 70' or early 80's as I think they did several "builds" one Pinto, Futura/Z7 and a Mustang, thinking these were Turbo cars. Nothing realy performance related just custom yet tasteful body and interior mods of the day...

Found at least the Mustang and Pinto from those builds....July 1979 Poupular Hotrodding...forgot about these guys

Are we deliberately avoiding posting a pic of this car or what? Stop saying you remember and deliver the goods! I was 11 in 1987 and did not subscribe!

Ok now that I know, I'm all over the place asking for that pic. If I can't get one uploaded on one of the other forums, then again, I'll just buy the whole book. It'll mean I pay about 15.00 for it, but it might just be an entire theme that I'll just integrate into the monster.
And if that's the case, it'll be the cheapest custom rendering anybody has ever had done for them before.

Hey man, I'm just thrilled that you knew what I was talking about, and pointed me in the right direction. Worst case scenario is I gotta spend 15 bucks to get that whole book. I have time,...the car isn't going anywhere in the next week. I'm just wanting to actually see a pic of the hood mod before I trash another hood. The fact that that car has all of the other body mods on it may or may not be of any benefit. All I know is it was that pic that made me fall for Fairmonts.

Bingo!!! That's the one I'm thinking of, hope it's the one Mike1157 needs or was looking for.

SVO brakes...in 1986 is just about as good as it got back then...even listed in that same catalog as a Motorsport part

BOOM! There it is! Clearly, I have gotten my Fairmont renderings somehow "blended". Although that is the car I was asking about, I thought that it had those AFX scoops on the hood as well.

C'est La Vie. It is what it is.

Thanks to You and Gmatt for scrounging around and finding the mag and the pic. Too bad though. I can't use a single concept off of that car.

    I've sealed off the Cowl.
There are intakes in the rear quarters that would clash with the ground effects.
I have a hand made fairing hanging from the front bumper that would force a re-do if I tried to make the air dam.
And I've already did that grille on one of my early Zeps, ..........................24 years ago.

Besides,...that little slot won't probably do the job for the Monster,....Withe turbo, AC, and those two hot assed oil coolers in front of the radiator,..I'll need the biggest hole that grille opening can accommodate.
