    Default Dashes Direct Gen3

Hi all, I'm looking at a dash pad replacement and was wondering if anyone has seen this one in person and if it is the quality piece we've been waiting for? Is this the Gen3 version from dashes direct last discussed here in 2014?

    http://www.cjponyparts.com/dash-pad-...1986/p/PAD18B/

Ready to pull the trigger so appreciate any input you have!
    thanks

Good price for the Labor Day sale and free shipping for the US too! Nice! Oh yeah, I'm in Canada...good thing I'm good for now on pads.

It looks like they are back ordered but it would be good to know if they are the savior for all of those needing dash pads! I wonder about the different mounting locations around the cluster for the later years and how they made that work.

FYI I just talked to Justin @ DDirect and he says that last year they updated the dash pad (Vinyl version) with a wire support by the defrost vents and additional support at the front edge. He said that the speaker grille hole issue was resolved previously as well and that this one is the latest/best. I'll pick one up and confirm. They only come in black which is perfect for me but not so much for the others who will then have to dye them.

Definitely let us know how the latest version fits and looks. I have a couple of cars I wouldn't mind getting a "Good" new dash pad for.

I wouldn't worry about having to dye/paint the pads. Given my experience with all the non-black
factory pads, I would paint a clean factory original if it wasn't black, just to keep the UV rays from
killing it. If the pad is properly prepped, SEM vinyl dye works very well, and doesn't flake off.

I ended up leaving the "gen2.5" pad I put on my '85 Vert black, but I'll probably dye it charcoal
eventually. Once I got it to fit, it has held up well. Certainly much better than the "gen2" I got
first. It amazes me how many 'fixes' these guys will try, to avoid a proper molded core like what
    the original pads used.

Scott Drake now claims to have one made from original Ford tooling, in black only, but I've not seen
any reviews on it yet. They want about $300 for it. No idea if it has the proper molded FRP core like
    the originals.

Here is a link to Summits ad for the Drake dash pad. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sd.../model/mustang

$300 is still a chunk of change for a dash pad in my eye's, but if it's good I guess it's worth it.

I do hope the lack of updates is only because the OP has been too busy to post. Even some photos
of the unboxed pad would be helpful at this point.

I unboxed it and took a few pics finally. Overall I'd call it very nice on the outward appearance and a great value for the money. Not sure if mounting it up will pose issues as it looks like it needs to be marked then drilled before installing which I knew going into and I prefer in order to get the best fit. The speakers look nice and the hole perforations were all uniform. The vinyl pattern looks correct. Let me know if there is anything else you want to see!

    Thanks for the update!

I was just thinking how funny it is, that it has taken a number of years (even with today's technology) for a company to work towards re-producing a fairly simple item that Ford perfected starting in the late 70s!

Was the Version 3 only available in black?
I just logged in to the website and they advertise many other colors too.
Unless it was only offered in black when you initially ordered it back in September. I also noticed they raised the price about $8.00 from when you bought it.
Keep up posted with some pictures after you install it as I too need to order about 3 dash pads.

That ^^^ pad looks identical to the 'Gen2.1' version (as I called it) that I installed in my '85 Vert, back
in late 2011. The main difference vs the Gen2 pad, was the addition of stiffeners across the front of the
defrost cutouts, and they also made some changes in the left and right speaker holes. I did have to do
some trimming of the excess foam on the underside to get mine to lay down completely.

It's toward the end of this long thread -
