    Default Motorcraft BX 63 Battery

Picked up my BX-63 today. Yes, it's the one advertised in Mustang Times and it's in perfect condition. Now, I need to finish the coupe's restoration so the battery has a home. Thought these pics could be used for reference if other members are looking for one.

May you tell me the significance of the battery. I think you have posted about needing one.

Absolutely! I was fortunate to purchase a cool coupe from a fellow FEP member and I'm doing a full nut and bolt restoration to the car. (I should put the word "slowly" in that description BTW.) Because I'm going completely original with this car and very few quality reproduction parts are produced for the Fox Body 'Stangs right now I have to find NOS or gently used parts and restore them. I've already sourced original radiator hoses, battery cables, starter, alternator, to name a few of the missing original components.

But the BX 63 was one of the most difficult to locate because batteries get recycled for their lead and plastic. Just like other normal wear and use items on cars, batteries wear out and get returned to the manufacturer. But for someone like myself who wants to score maximum points when my car is judged at MCA shows, I need an original battery or get points deducted. That's my reason, I hope I can find one more because I have another '84 project waiting to be tackled after this Tu Tone coupe...

Hope that explains my obsession with locating this part!

Absolutely! Cool man, would be nice to pull a mold off of it or something to benefit the Mustang community. That's cool you found one.

You're a wise man! I'm going a little more high tech though. When I have time, I'll have a 3-D scan taken of the battery for future reference. I'm just thankful this guy left the battery sitting in his garage for 31 years and never recycled it.

What a story...how much? I bet it was not cheap, if you don't mind. I can't imagine many survivors.

I'm not a "kiss and tell" kind of guy but no it wasn't cheap. At least I didn't pay shipping since the seller was coming to Columbus for the Grand National show, that saved me quite a bit.

Thanks for the interest, I hope getting the word out will increase interest in Fox Body Mustangs!

That's okay, I understand, but maybe it could be a money maker nowadays with 3D printing. Cool!

Amazing Ford! Yeah if you have a Boss, I'm sure you'd want it to stand out from the others at a car show. It's all about the details. Wow!

Wow, that puts my purchase into perspective! That's cool you found a 46 year old battery in new condition. Doubt my BX 63 will ever hit those levels of desirability but it would be an incredible Return On Investment!

I need to find a factory battery for my 85. I believe I know who you bought this from. he used to own my 85. We were talking about this yesterday and he told me he just sold one that he brought to the show.

As this battery proves, they're out there. You probably did see him, he was showing a car this weekend. Good luck with your search, it's rewarding to achieve a goal!

I'm still looking.... Although I still have a real philosophical problem with requiring a dead battery for Concours DRIVEN class...

I agree with you. Pretty hard to drive the car and have an old battery. I show mine in unrestored.

Good looking for a battery, the translucent white part.
Dresses up that area, like a white shirt.
Would have kept mine had i known they would go back to black cases.
Have it rebuilt with new insides.

here's the original one for my 89 LX Sport Coupe

just glad to have it, this and the original oil filter are two of my favorite pieces for shows. I love the way they made batteries back then, especially the embossed "Motorcraft"on the side and the cool real vented caps. It's amazing the subtle changes they made on these over the years.
