Map Pockets Option?

Were they an independent option on 84s? I see a lot of GTs with them. My car is fairly well optioned, but I don't see any holes where the map pocket would have been.

Foxchassis would be the one to ask on this. Most likely the door panel map pockets were part of an interior group package. I didn't see anything mentioned in the 84 Brochure in the Library, but I know that the brochure didn't show every option or package necessarily.

I don't usually pay attention to these details unless somebody starts a discussion such as this one, and then I look into it. I had no idea that map pockets went all the way back to 1979.

Map pockets were not a separate option. They were either standard equipment, depending on model, or not available at all. According to the respective Car Facts Organizer or Car Facts Book, they were standard equipment in...

A lot of people have the carpeting replaced on the door panels. That may explain the lack of holes.
My 84 GT convertible had them on both doors.

I guess they weren't standard on GT's then. I thought since my car had the Sport interior, they were part of it. My 85 LX had them with the standard interior.

My 85 LX 2.3L has a pocket on the driver's door only also have the center console. The pocket sags so it's held up with paper clips.....LOL

I'm not 100% positive, but I think it was just the drivers door. It was 20 years ago that I had it.

My 86 LX convertible came with map pockets on both doors.
And yes they both sag. I need to replace the elastic strip.

To eliminate that sag look, I had the pockets replaced with the delete panels. It gives the door a much cleaner look.

I pulled the original door panels out of a 79 Ghia notch years ago and it didn't have a map pocket and never did have.

1979 dealer brochure description says 'Ghia map pockets'. Plural.

My 86 GT vert had factory map pockets on both doors. I never used them and over time the elastic that keeps them taught gave up. Shortening the elastic works but bottom line if they are not used why have the pockets? I removed them on my resto build.
