Default New To Me 1984 Mustang GT Info

Hey Fox! Not sure if you already have the info off of my 84 GT in your database or not, so I will post up the doortag and bucktag for you. I have run the bucktag through your decoder already but I have not decoded the doortag.

I did also include the PDF link to it as the picture is a bit blurry but I couldn't figure out how to make it better. Hopefully the link in the previous post works.

One of 1,108 with those paint & trim codes would mean there are 1,108 tan 84 GTs I guess? Kind of surprising there were that many.
1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.

That stat would cover all 1984 3-door sedans (P28 hatchback), which means L/LX/GT/SVO, but since neither 8Q paint nor FH trim was available on/in the SVO you can narrow it down to all non-SVO hatchbacks. You cannot narrow it further because neither the paint nor the trim were unique to the L, LX, or GT models/trim levels.

Not knowing how many non-SVO hatchbacks were produced in 1984, I would still think that 1,108 in this paint and trim code would still be pretty unique. It's too bad we can't narrow it down to GT specific but I'm sure it had to be less than half that for the GT Hatchback.

I was hoping a little bit for something on the edge of stupid rare but either way I feel I got a unique, rare and pretty cool car......plus I know that of the 1,108 that were produced, I'm sure very few of them have survived with this combination.

EDIT.....this was posted in the for sale post when I was looking at it. Could it be possible that the # of 5.0 LX/GT hatchbacks in this color posted is correct? I have no idea where this # came from but it would be pretty cool if it was the case! I would like to know where he got this # from.

Those numbers are from the Mustang Red Book and Fox Body Mustang Recognition Guide. (The late author of the Red Book co-authored the FBMRG, that is why they have the same numbers.) Some of the numbers in those books have proven to be inaccurate. The paint production numbers in those book are by body code and engine code combined.

Can you post pics of the door tag and buck tag? There was no hue of blue that was available as a regular production color on the GT or Turbo GT in 1984. If that is the original color it should have beeen a special order.

Dark Academy Blue Metallic (5C) and Light Academy Blue Glow (35) were regular production colors available on the L and LX, and one SVO was special ordered with Dark Academy Blue Metallic (called "Dark Cadet Blue" at the plant).

Awesome Marti Report! If you want to get more concise with the production numbers, order an Elite Report, if offered for your car. It won't get you to "GT Only" but it will break down by drive train and should get you very close to the 519 number I quoted from the Fox-Body Mustang Recognition Guide 1979-1993.

Even if 519 isn't the exact number it won't be off by many. That 1,108 includes every hatchback painted light desert tan produced for 1984. So to think only 589 non-V8 8Q hatchbacks were produced seems plausible, or maybe 519 is too high for V8s. Order the Elite Report if possible and get to the bottom of it!

All I know is you've got a unique color GT and that's very cool!

(As a side note, if that's the one and only '84 Light Academy Blue Glow Turbo GT Convertible pictured, I may need a moment to gather myself...)
'84 Tu Tone Coupe 5.0/T-5 Dark Academy Blue/Light Academy Blue Glow

Sorry for the bump, but I was just curious if there was any way to know if this car came from the factory with the 7.5 or 8.8 rear end in it. It appears to have the 8.8 underneath it now.

Interesting, I guess I need to figure out the 8.8 and gearing then. As I'm positive that this is an 8.8.
