luggage rack inserts

Does anybody know where to get the insert strips for the luggage rack on my 86 GT.

As far as I know nobody makes repo's of those. Junkyard might be your only option or somebody is parting out a vert.

I haven't picked up the trunk lid yet. What i am after are the inserts that have shrunk. They are in the strips that are riveted to the lid. As soon as I have the trunk lid I will PM you the pictures. Should have it home this next week.

I am getting the lid from a convert that is being parted. The PO stripped the lid of the luggage rack. There is another in a close by yard that I have to go back and check out. Thanks webestang for the reply.

Your looking for the strip inside the strip? As you can see on mine they are short....LOL



If you need rivets I used the set from LMR.....

That's how they all are, about 1/2" play on each strip.

I will have to dig mine out of storage and check length. I bought this trunk lid back in 1987 from an almost new 1986 GT vert that was wrecked along with many other parts. All the parts have been in storage and out of the sunlight since then and are spot on relative to factory dark charcoal color.

I called a buddy with a 90 vert and he said his are short too. Ford must have made them that way to expand and contract with hot or cold weather.

Actually they are short for a reason:

When the Ford Motor Company ordered the strips the manufacturer didn't have enough material.
So they cut them all a little bit short to be sure not to run out ..... lol

Just picked up two sets yesterday and the rubber inserts are full length. Was looking for a rubber bumper for the deck lid when I found them. Two aero converts both LXs with the luggage racks intact. Could not resist pulling them and taking them home. Took the 3rd brake lit and the wings. I had never seen the strips with rubber that actually fit without gaps. Only the ends that fit into the wing are maybe 1/8th inch short.
