Default How many Members actually bought a Four eye new?

A long, long time I bought my first new car. It was a 1985 Mercury Cougar... Loved that car..

Around 2000 I was in a wreck on the way to work and totaled it.

My first brand new car was an 85 GT purchased in December of 1984. It was rear ended by a drunk driver while parked in 1991. I had it repaired but to me it just was not the same car anymore. Traded it in on a Super Coupe. I pulled it out of the garage one day after work to take this picture shortly after I brought it home. The 76 Monte Carlo in the background was my winter beater.

My 81 was almost new, it was a dealer "prep" car. Used by the dealer as a demo then as a surrogate car if yours was in their shop. I bought it in early 1983 as the first registered owner. She had 3800 miles on her when I bought her. She died in 1989 with around 200xxx miles. I was the sole owner.

Purchased my 86 GT new and still have it. It's torn down for some nice upgrades at the moment. Wouldn't get rid of it for anything.

I have bought just 2 new cars in my life, and they were both four eyes.

First was my 81 Ghia T Roof hatch, which was mortally wounded 2 years later . It may be still out there. A body shop called me months later asking if I had any keys for it. He planned to rebuild her. Sorry no post-able pics.

The next was my 86 vert which now has about 97k on it.

My RS was bought new by my Father and then he gave the car to me in 1990 and I've had it ever since.

I ordered my car on Friday, April 13th 1984. I ordered an anniversary convertible with the new roller tappet motor. Well, the motor was delayed until after the 85's were brought into production. My local Ford dealer tried to get me to place my order without the new motor but I would not have it. My convertible was delivered on November 30, 1984. I have owed it since! I belong to the Mustang Club of Tampa and have the only 85 convertible!

Bought my 2R 84 SVO in April 1984 at the dealership a week or two before the 20th Anniversary Party at the same dealership. Still have it, some 25,000 miles later. Also bought an 86 LX hatchback 5.0 in November of 85.

This thread started me thinking and then doing the math.
I was 29 when I bought my 29 year old Mustang. I have owned it for exactly half my life.
And if you factor in you have to be at least 18 to buy a car in your name.
The youngest you can be to answer is 47. It's mostly and old farts club.

I tried to... when the 1980 models came out, I tried to buy one, but I needed a co signer. My dad said I was too young to pay that much for a car. That's when my mom decided I could have her 65 instead.

When I was stationed in Italy, the 1983 models were coming out, but I just couldn't swing the cost on my military salary. I never owned a Fox until my 36th birthday in 1996, which is when I bought an all original 1980 Ghia hatchback from a local dealer. Gods, I wish I'd kept that car.

Yes you are correct. My GT doesn't look much different. I can't say the same for me though.

I went to the rice & holman ford dealership in NJ summer of 1985 and sat in a 85 red gt. I couldn't afford it at the time. Left the showroom sad.

I graduated college, moved to Florida, then treated myself to an '86 GT. At 140k miles it goes to shows and to work occasionally. Still puts a huge grin on my face when I drive it.

We bought our Black 1986 Mustang 5.0HO 5 spd/manual brand new from the dealership where where my husband was service manager. It was one of the final ones built off the line that year. It came in on the trailer and my husband said to the driver to bring the keys to it to my husband. It was funny because I told him when he brought it home to test drive I told him I'd love to have a car like this and he bought it the very next day. We still own it to this date, restored it about 4 years ago. Best car ever, so much fun to drive.

Damn you guys are old... JUST KIDDING!!! I was a little young, had to buy the magazines and read about the cars instead. Jealous you guys got to experience these cars in their purest form. But that's why I'm a fan of concourse restorations, I crave the feeling of driving a brand new 4 eye 'Stang!

I'm 23 and I bought my 85 GT back in May 2013. It has all the usual old car problems, rattles and creaks and whatnot. I would have loved to buy a brand new fox. What was it like? Air conditioning, everything works, no leaky t tops. It sounds lovely.

Unfortunately, I never got to buy one new but I did buy a brand new Ford Escort (my uncle co-signed) back in 1986 and I remember seeing the Mustangs at the dealership.

I test drove a Black 85.5 SVO right after I turned 16! I still can't believe the salesman let me and my two other buddies take it for a spin. What an idiot!

My best friend and I were talking about that just the other day.
