Default I purchased a Vintage Motorcraft Battery for Shows

I purchased a Vintage Motorcraft Battery for Shows

I had the chance to buy the used one - this one, or a NOS one.

My wife went crazy when she heard how much they cost.

She said heck no on the NOS one, but I was able to get the used one. She thought this was crazy money for this, but I told her where am I going to find another one.

It does not work and all the acid has been drained. It will be used only at MCA 79-93 Concours shows.

Here it is - Pretty cool. Not perfect, I think I can sand smooth the plastic out a little on the corners. I still need to clean it up a little.

I admire you guys that are doing the Concours thing, but every time I see how hard it is to find certain things I'm good with my decision to modify. One day I'll wish I had gone the other route.

Mike -I think I could, but I don't want to. I figure a battery just for shows is best left with the acid out. The thought of the acid leaking out in my car driving to a show freaks me out a little. It is a 35 year old battery, I figure it is best to leave it alone

I'd cut a big hole in the bottom and gut the plates out of it.
No sense carrying all the extra weight around, and nothing to ever leak, corrode, or get nasty then...

    Unbelievable find!

Is the NOS one still available?

I thought those clear / white case red top battery were an early - mid 70s issue and the black case was correct for later on

Admittedly the one pictured below is a Group 24 battery whilst the one pictured is r56

    Great find either way!

Fair question. Here is the 1979 Motorcraft Battery Catalog. If you look on the second column you will see my battery. I put a yellow arrow pointing to it.

Got to find me an old battery after being at the show. Thanks for all the pointers you guys gave me. Gonna request my judging sheet also to make some minor tweaks on the 85.

That is a very neat find. I have always thought that a correct battery and cables set off the engine bay. I have never been to an MCA show so forgive me for asking what may be a dumb question but do they not require the vehicle to start and all electrical items to work?

When I was at AutoZone, I heard a man ask for a box of battery acid to restore a battery. I could have heard wrong, but the worker went to the back of the battery section and gave him a box, he paid and left. Maybe that can be done.

You do have to drive your car to the parking spot. Most people will change out their working battery for the dead correct one for judging.
