Default Original Air Cleaner for Carbureted 85

Could somebody with a carbureted '85 help me out and tell me if the Air Cleaner for the carbureted 85 is the same as the 84, 83, etc., or if it was unique to that year? The Ford part # would be ideal.

I'm going to Tosy's Mustang Farm in Massachusetts (dozens of four eyed mustangs there!) this weekend but they don't have any 85 air cleaners - I know because I went once before about 6 weeks ago. They only have a few 85's at "the farm". So, I'm wondering if the 82-84 AC is the same.

    Thanks a million!

'82 is definitely a different beast. While it's dual-snorkel, it's the same diameter as the older single-snorkel
unit, with a taller domed lid.

There are detail differences between the '83-'84-'85 air cleaner lid stencils, but I am not aware if there are
    any differences between the bases.

The main thing you want to avoid is a CFI air cleaner base, as the big hole in the middle is larger diameter,
and there are only two small indexing tabs at the rear of the hole. CFI base also has a second thermostatic
valve hole on the passenger side.
    Cheers,

I have an 83 and 85, I never noticed a difference from the two years but in the stencil on the lid as stated. Based looks the same, as they are both four barrel carbs. There is one on EBay if it hasn't ended or sold. I'll see if I can find it.

The base, read the codes part number.

While that base on the first ebay listing is definitely for a carbureted application, I'm going to suggest
it's not actually from a Mustang, or at least not an '85, given the extra thermostatic valve at the 10:00
    position.

That second listing with the E4ZE engineering number label also has the additional thermostatic valve
hole, so that would suggest that '84 and '85 used slightly different bases.

The '83-'85 GT air cleaner base was originally used on 460s, in large cars and in trucks. I also have
one here that came off a 351 in an Econoline.

Thanks guys! This has been a big help and is much appreciated. I took the info you gave me and did a couple further searches and it looks like 84 and 85 are the same stencil as well, and if the bases are the same, I can be confident buying an 84 AC with a stencil reading "5.0 Liter 4V H.O."

    Thanks again

Not sure about the bases, but this top looks like my 83 top. Yes 84 and 85 have the same top.

'86 was the first year for the SEFI V8 in Mustangs, but EFI came along in other forms beginning in '83.
The '5.0 Liter EFI HO' air cleaner was used on CFI Mustangs in '84 and '85, and is not interchangeable
with the '5.0 Liter 4V HO' air cleaner. (Well, the lids and snorkels will swap, but that's about it.)

Hmm, I guess I mixed up CFI and SEFI. I thought CFI came out in '86, and SEFI was an '88-up improvement. Thank you for the clarification, Jeff.

The improvement that came in '88 (California) and '89 (Federal) Mustangs was the Mass Airflow sensor.

I located my 85 base dual snorkel set up, confirmed mine does not have the thermostatic valve at 10 o clock as stated. Now to find my 83 dual snorkel set up, also my NOS one, I need to make sure the NOS ONE I bought is an Mustang and also not an 82 Mustang, because of the two barrel.
