    Default Saleen Console Plate Resto

I'm not sure if I showed this to you all or not:

    Before:

    After/

I wasn't sure if I should have left it original, but I couldn't stand how it looked. I did this by carefully sanding. I think it came out well.
    Cheers!

    Looks great Mike. 100x Better.
I should probably touch mine up as well.

I would leave just as you restored it, it's original, looks way better and can be appreciated more the way you cleaned it up. Good thing its not an old coin, then that would be a problem. LOL...Looks great.

No clear coat for me. I just sanded the top until it got to the above point.
    Cheers!

That looks 100x better than before! I wonder if it needs a coat of clear to protect it and keep it from "corroding" again?

A semi-gloss/matte clearcoat is needed - otherwise it will corrode again. BTDT.

Is this the same material that the 5.0 HO plate is made out of on top of the EFI upper intakes that tend to get corroded looking as well? I have a '93LX Summer Feature with just 2,500 miles, but the damn intake plate looks 22 yrs old while the rest of the car looks brand new. I was thinking of taking it of and rubbing it with some steel wool.

That's a good idea, and you can choose the grit you want with steel wool (if it's from a paint supply or some McParts stores). I've restored a couple intake plates, but I ended up painting them (I know you just want back to factory looking).

    Cheers!

Jason, if you do that, your car will be "restored".

I would consider that "cleaning" vs "restoring". Now if we clean and then paint, that is a different story.
