85 Coupe Redo

So just like my 88 vert redo it's all about a small budget. First thing is keep it road ready during the redo (driving build) till next year and then the heart transplant............V8 w/AOD or Turbo 4 w/5-sp.......

Did installed a new fender today.


Also removed the starter from the 2.3, it locked up on me twice so time for a new one.

Not sure about the previous owners but I've gone through 3 winters so far. There are more spots of rust here and there but this fender had to go.

The only upgrade for the interior is new carpet so it will stay much like this, keeping the rear seat, the upholstery, head liner are in perfect shape. The rear deck will get new carpet and I'll tint the rear window.


I did add a 50 Years hat pin to the dash, I cut off the pin and used double sided tape,

Small update.....I need plates!

But to pass inspection I needed to change all the front brakes including hoses and hard line, bearings.....etc.....



and the boring rear drums including wheel cylinders, rear hard lines OK.....whew!



Will have photos of "body work to do" later.

Other than the typical small bubbles of rust in the usual places looks like I might have to replace the rear bumper cover due to exhaust getting loose and melting it. I thought about cutting the bottom part off and replacing it with a 87-93 bottom to keep the trim the same. That seems like a lot of plastic welding to me though.....


Tip....when removing trim to do body work put the nuts back on so you know where they are.


I will paint under the trunk lid and the hood this time.

One upgrade and one replacement. Since the 85 2.3 came with no rear sway bar, got one at a JY, some sanding and a lick of paint and should be good to go. And the new front struts (same series I installed on my 88 5.0, gives very nice ride) should eliminate the bouncy ball I get over humps and bumps.

Check your rear u-joint. It appears to be leaking some grease.

Not much to report except LMR has there door weather strip kit on sale so I bought a pair (and a pair for the 88 as well).
