The ones in this post are Aerostar headers, but they need to be reflanged to fit the earlier head, and everything is in the way for a Fox.

Not any more. They used to sell 3 outlet headers for the 1974 to 1977 2.8 Mercury Capri, 80 Bobcat Pinto 2.8, and the Mustang ii 2.8, but not anymore.

Headers don't help Cologne V6's, as the flow problems aren't related to the exhaust.

The US market engine doesn't need exhaust work, as Ford USA commissioned the German Cologne team make up some triple outlet heads after the RS 2600 program, and they are very well manifolded at the outlets. Its the intake and cam specs and carburation restrictions in place that make the US 2.8 an engine so down on power compared to the European 135, 150 and 160 hp versions. With work on those restrictive parts, you can dial up 24 to 56 more hp without batting an eyelid.

The stock 104 or 109 hp goes right up to 160 hp with the right cam, intake valves, compression and carburation. The port Injection sytstems (Bosch CIS or Ford EECIV Port EFI) are more restrictive than the Offenhauser 2/4 bbl. or even a 2-bbl intake with direct mount 1.08, 1.21, 1.23, or 1.33 2100/2150 2-bbl carb can really wake things up.

Dollar for dollar follow Etyl Cat's advise. Post #36 and #79. Don't spend a dollar on the exhaust.

I did give more of a race type cam example in an earlier post that had 270 on the intake, but I do not think you are in that realm of operation with this project.

    I would recommend something like a 254/276 224/230 .480/.390 on a 109 +7

Should pull hard to 5000 or so and have about 200lb/ft just off idle

While not nearly as technical as xctasy or ethyl cat, we are rebuilding a 2.8 and they have both offered up good advice. While we are running the stock cam for now, we have decided against trying to locate the Mustang II headers (impossible to find) or go with the Aerostar manifolds (headers) because of needing to reflange them.

There is a bunch of info in this thread here: http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...ebuild-options

We decided on doing a bunch of porting instead mainly on the intake side but also including the exhaust ports and the exhaust manifolds. We are eventually going to put the Offy 4 BBL intake on and when we do will change the cam up too. There is also a bunch more engine detail pictures in this thread starting here: http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...=1#post1619897

We are still going to put on dual exhaust at one point in the future though!

I have to be honest I just want it to sound cool until I get to build a cool little small block 302 for it lol. but the inof is great I wouldn't mind building a nice 2.8 but i'm sure is much more expensive, the parts are harder to find etc than just getting a 302
