Default I'm trying to take care of something simple...

    ...but, it just isn't simple.

A while.back, I bought new clutch and brake pedal pads as part of the interior restoration. But those made the accelerator pedal look kind of pitiful. To my surprise, the accelerator pedal is plastic instead of rubber, but I digress. The problem is this, when I try to order a replacement pedal, they tell me that I'm ordering the wrong one for my car. I've been told that the correct pedal for a 1984 car with manual transmission is the skinny, narrow version. My car has the wide accelerator pedal, so who's right? Can someone else with an 84 that has manual transmission chime in on this?

In the end, I'll get what looks like mine, but I'd like a consensus to settle my conscience.

My 84 with a manual has a fairly skinny pedal. It was the same as the 79 four cylinder four speed car I had. You have me curious now, I've never seen anything different than what my cars all had, and they were all the same.
1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.

I wonder if your 84 was a late build?

    My 79 has this one.

    79-84

    Does yours have this type?

    85 - up?

Mine is an 84-1/2 if that makes a difference, so I imagine that it's a late year build.

    Interesting results...

It looks like we've found one of those subtle mid-year build changes. At least i know I'm not nuts. Thanks for the input!
