I agree. Those pics (the ones 1986Saleen took), along with the ones sent to me by Airplanedriver and Conmech are exactly what I needed. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to do this for me (and 85-0073). Both of us greatly appreciate it.
I'll add mine to this thread once I have them installed.

So I started trying to lay out the decals (on the car) today, and this is gonna be a lot harder than I thought it would be. Plus I'm gonna install a GT hood decal, so that's another huge graphic to add to the group. I'm nervous...

I got some decal application gel from Phoenix graphics, which is supposed to give me a lot more time than soapy water...I just think I'm intimidated because once it's on, it's on and these graphics are a huge part of the Saleen look. I think I'm gonna get my wife to help me with the hood decal and the door graphics so when I start to squeegee they stay put.

Thanks. I'll post about how well it worked compared to soap and water (which I've used before). Hopefully it works as they claim and it gives me as much time as I need to make sure it's placed perfectly. That GT hood graphic is huge and it worries me the most.
Cheers!

Using the soap and water or the gel is an excellent help to getting your graphics placed just right. Although I would recommend you spend the time before hand laying them out exactly where you want them. Use tape, pencil marks, and a tape measure to get them placed as accurately as possible. Use the tape as a hinge on the top or the side of the graphics to help locate them. Then remove the backing paper, spray your gel/soapy water solution and lay them back down in place. Then adjust as needed before beginning to squeeze the solution out from under the graphics. You will still have your top paper on the graphics to help with your positioning. Once all your solution is removed, then remove the top paper layer and double check your graphics for bubbles, etc. and work them out as needed.
Good Luck!

Thanks Mamba! These graphics are gonna totally transform my car and they will do the same to yours. I say get to a paint shop, buy some SEM charcoal, and spray your headlight buckets (and whatever else needs doing ). Then get yourself a set of graphics and go to town. Your Saleen is amazing in all black, but adding those silver graphics will take it to another level.
I can't wait to have mine done. I'm hoping that since my wife is home tomorrow she can help me with the GT hood decal, and all the rocker stripes except the ones for the spats. Unfortunately I made a mistake when I painted those and I have to fix that before the graphics can go on...so it will be a few days before all mine are installed, but if I can get all those other ones done that will make an enourmous impact on the cars looks.
Cheers!

"Every day I learn how much I don't know"
In my first post I asked about whether or not the banner needed to be cut and applied separately ( meaning install "Saleen" and "mustang" individually) and after matching my graphic with the burn in from the original windshield banner, I thought I had things figured out (the curve in the windshield throwing me off)....now I'm not so sure.
Check out this pic:
Is it just me or are the "a, n, and g" in "Mustang" not aligned with the rest of the letters? It almost looks like starting with "t" the printing starting going up?
This was what lead me to ask about cutting the graphic up to install it properly. I don't know if it's possible to put it on right without cutting those letters out so I can position them in line with the rest of the words.
What do you think?
Cheers!

Can you get a piece of 1" masking tape and run it along the bottom of the faded-in letters, then lay your new decal over it tightly? You might then shine a light through from inside the car and see how the new decal lines up at the bottom of the letters.
Thanks! The pics make things look better than they are when you're up close, but I'm satisfied with what I've been able to do (I've never done anything like this before). Are you talking about the tutone? If so, my best guess is Saleen painted over it so my car will stay red down there and just have the silver rocker stripes. I imagine the original owner racked up a hefty bill with Saleen for all the extra painting and body work they had to do with this one.
If that's not what you're talking about the. Please refresh my memory.
Cheers!

I am enjoying your thread on this subject...
I am going to assume that the letters on the paper are "going up hill" because you have to follow the curve of the windshield. It would look kinda odd if it was straight like your orange tape line.
I would also recommend placing tape on the inside of the glass under your ghost image letters to help guide you on placement. I can imagine that it will be difficult to get the new letters to match up perfectly with the original image. If it were me, I would probably try to polish out the old image.
Remember, if you screw up, it is not the end of the world. Buy another set and try again.

Wouldn't you think those letters would be below (or going down instead of up) the rest, if they were following the curve in the windshield, because they are the last letters in the word (think rainbow effect).
I don't know...they just look off to me.
Cheers!

I took things to the extreme and I outlined all the burned in letters with a sharpie. I'm gonna cut out each letter and lay them in one at a time so it matches with the burned in original. Hopefully I'll have this done tomorrow, but I have to figure out what to do about my misshaped GT hood decal (my wife confirmed that it was cut wrong). I'm gonna call Phoenix graphics and see if they have any suggestions, otherwise I'm gonna make a template from my hood, place that over the misshaped decal, and then trim off what I don't need with a new razor. I'm just terrified about ruining the decal. I'm hoping phoenix graphics will tell me to bring in my crappy decal and they will cut it for me (or let me use one of theirs to make my cut lines off of).
Fingers crossed, but wow have these graphics been a nightmare...even my rocker stripes are wrong (technically). On my car (and a few other 85's that I've seen) the stripes wrap around each part by a wheel opening and they wrap inside the door. The repop's I got from PAS aren't long enough to do that...which is disappointing and hard to live with (for me).
Cheers!
