    Default 94 302

Hey guys, I've been doing tons of searching and seem to be getting conflicting answers everywhere I turn. I am looking at purchasing a 94 302 from a f150 because my current one is toast. (That's a whole other can of worms...) The price is right and it has around 130k on it, so if it was treated right, I should be able to get some usable miles out of it before a rebuild. My question is, does this particular engine have a roller cam? I seem to see that people say 92 or 93 and up do, but then I hear of other people saying that it depends on if it had a MAF or not, etc. Can you shine some light into this? Thanks in advance.

If this block doesn't have a roller cam, I believe it is already revised to accept a roller cam.

Here's what I found. The 87-93 EFI 5.0 Bronco/F-series 5.0 SD engines were rated at 180HP. In 1992-3 they got a roller cam but it had the same profile as the flat tappet cam. In 1994 the rating jumped to 205 HP. The only real difference was a cam swap to the F4TE roller cam. This F4TE cam had 256/266 duration and 0.422/0.448" lift at the valve (close to the HO specs), compared to the 244/256 duration, .379/.395 lift offered by the 92-93 truck roller cam. The better F4TE uses the HO firing order, 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 instead of the non roller 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8, and they are MAF. The best way to tell what you have is to find the casting number on the side of the block near the starter motor, it should begin with F4TE-_

Thanks guys! Hopefully it'll turn out to be a roller. Looking forward to getting my merc back on the road again.
