Default intermediate steering shaft gold marking

I saw a NOS intermediate steering shaft for sale on ebay a while back. What caught my eye was a sloppy looking gold marking on the firewall-side end. So I did the same thing on mine: I painted on a sloppy looking gold mark. Anyone ever seen this, or have evidence of something similar being on their car? When I started restoring the engine bay this shaft (like about everything else underhood) was much too rusty to get any information from.

Bob, I think what you saw, was either anti-seize or grease that was applied at the factory.
But hey, the gold mark looks cool. And soon every car you see will have one after they see yours!
