there is a plastic piece that fits under this (see attachment) and it holds the metal piece from falling out, are they replaceable or will I have to source one from a junk yard

Is your car an 84-85? If so, you need to get the local Ford dealer to do the recall. Those cars had white plastic clips that deteriorated. The newer ones are black.

It was for Mustangs and Capris at least. Before the recall, I pulled some black ones out of an 86 F350 and put in mine. You can call the dealer and see. The recall is here, it is from 1992.

Dude, thank you thank you, I called the Ford parts guy to try and order it first and he was like no way there is an open recall from 92
I was like ok and called the service dept and told them what I had, she found it and is in the process of ordering the parts now
I would have paid for the parts but this is way better. again THANK YOU

I knew the recall said it was open regardless of age or condition of the vehicle. I guess they meant it! Make sure they install them correctly at the dealership. I had to put mine in again because they put the bar in backwards.

I don't remember, but trust me, if they put them in wrong, you will notice. It has something to do with the chamfer on the bar and which way it is turned. One way the clip fits much better than the other way.
