I did replace the radiator in my cougar with a mustang 3 row
Same here..I swapped my T-birds two core for a Mustang three core radiator and have been very happy with the results. Its a direct swap. My car has a 180 thermostat and runs about 215 degrees in the summer (times like waiting in heavy traffic, or the Dairy Queen drive thru) but usually stays around 195 to 200 degrees. I'm currently running a Flex-a-lite mechanical fan without a clutch.
This summer I'm swapping the Flex-a-lite mechanical fan for an electric fan, pulled out of a Ford Taurus 3.8L. (It's a very popular swap, for anyone who hasn't heard about it).
Picked up a three core used today at the Mustang yard. Installed and rocking! Thanks!

Just picked this ole girl up. Runs and drives great. Doing some maintenance repairs/upgrades and it will be my daughters first car.

Saw a white '81 in an LKQ u-pull-it yard in MD this past weekend. https://www.lkqpickyourpart.com/loca...y-208/recents/ - search for Thunderbird and you'll see it. I didn't look inside, so I don't know if the interior is any good.
My 81 granada same body style as the cougar caw
I have an 82 cougar wagon that my mom bought new. It's been a an ongoing project for a while but I'm working on it again to try to get it on the road some this fall.
This might be the best place to ask. I need a fender for it, can I us a fender off of a 2 door coupe or does it have to come from a 4 door? If anyone knows it would make my life a little easier.
Thanks,
Blake
Thanks so much for starting this thread! Finally we have a place to celebrate these generally un-loved cars which deserve so much more respect. I actually think they are beautiful! I wish I could have been on the initial styling team where I would have added and changed a thing or two but overall, I think they have stemmed the styling tide; they are clean and downright handsome in my book.
I enjoyed this thread also. My first car was a 81 XR7. Drove it for many years without a problem at all. Makes me kinda miss that body style, except the Cougar taillights.... What were they thinking? So huge and hideous.

Now stang-less.
88 Cougar 5.0
I just discovered while reading good ol' Wikipedia that there were 2 different wheelbases for the 2-door cars - 105.5" (Fairmont, Zephyr, Granada, and Cougar) and 108.5" (Tbird, XR7 and Mark VII). I think it's particularly interesting that the Cougar and Cougar XR7 were on different wheelbases.
According to AZMcLaren85, they don't share ANYTHING, body-wise. Not doors, nothing.
So weird. It would have been funny to walk into a Mercury dealership in 1980 and see the new XR-7 next to the still Torino-based Cougars for that model year.

4+ years ago I posted about wanting to swap cooling fans and just did it this spring... talk about a project delay. My 80 Tbird is an endless project but I never see another car like mine around. It's just something different to wrench on. I've had mine for over 20 years and always feel guilty if I even think about selling it.
