Just realized more that we have a lot in common on our capris. I just realized I had admired your hood modifications. I came across your thread not long after I had "a great idea that nobody has done yet"........ I have a cowl hood and the extra vents so I may be copying what you did!!!! We are thinking the same on the hood and feder mods!!! Too funny

Anything you need as far as help on the cowl, let me know. I documented everything I could in the thread and I got really lucky it came out as good as it did. From the top it looks perfect! Actually looks factory! My only regret is not taking as much time on the underneath... still looks alright though. In any case, The front air dam extensions are gettin pretty rare. I somehow cracked my passenger side one inside the wheel opening ??? must've caught the tire when I was turning it or something??? In any case, If you are going to chop up a set (in that area), I'll give you that one to experiment with after I find a good replacement.

Man does having the use of a 2 post lift make things so much easier!!! Made some progress:

I was able to track down a good deal on some ceramic coated FMS shorty headers - should make everything a lot easier. Will be selling a set of Bassani long-tube headers if anyone intersted..........

Obviously had to install the MM LCA's to get the axle in.....

After we get the moc-up done, will start to fit up tires and wheels. Will then get the axle housing sent out to be cut to length, 9" ends installed to accept the disc brakes and have new axles installed and a new differential.

Quick question - Are you doing the 9" ends to get rid of the C-clips retainers on the axles? I thought I read somewhere deep in the bowels of mustang knowledge that the C-clip eliminators are not ideal for road racing. More like they were for the drag racing crowd. Which in any case never really made sense to me?

Going with 9" end to fit the rear disc brakes I got a deal on..... Will have to do more research on the c-clip eliminators as the guy that is helping is a big drag racer!!!!

    Thanks for pointing that out!

Just saw you are somewhat local to me and have a Capri, found this thread and... THIS CAR IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!

Any progress in the last year and a half?

    Cale,

Thanks! I am on the north-east side of Battle Creek, close to the I94/I69 interchange and the casino.

Not much progress, or as much as I would like...... I installed all new brake lines (amazing how long it can take to bend lines!!!). Also ran most of the fuel lines, but stopped when I got stuck figuring out how I wanted to route the line to get from the fuel pump to the regulator....

Since then my buddy sold his shop/garage and I had to move the car back to my place. I purchased a 4 post lift last spring and have been working out cleaning up my shop to get work going again. Hoping to get things kick started again soon.

We started to fab up the exhaust but I didnt like how low the headers hung. I installed drop motor mounts that look like they lowered the engine at least 1/2 in or more.... so swapped from long-tubes to shorties. Now I need to get it up on the lift and make new down pipes to go from the headers to the x pipe. We are working from the tailpipes forward and left off with adding some flanges between the back of the mufflers and the tail pipes to make instal/removal of the exhaust easy. More to come!!!!

WOW...... been almost 2 yrs since I have been able to work on this.... had thoughts of giving up and selling but need to finish this out!!! Last I left off was fitting tires to the car. Looking at 245 - 18 up front. Originally using forward offset MM A-arms, later model length. Need to work out off-set/etc to get the tire tucked back in......Name: IMG_0126.jpg

I really need to get back to working on this!!!!! Life keeps getting in the way and then other projects! Hope to get the shop organized and get back on this soon. Too close to getting done, but LOTS of little things to tidey up. Thought about going back to standard offset control arms..... but need to stay the course. Hope to start fender mofications soon and then measure up for wheels......

Just a quick question about way back when you pulled the dash. Would you happen to have anymore shots of the dash/harness as you pulled them? I'm trying to reassemble my 84 and I'm digging around for exactly where everything goes. You have a bracket or two pictured already that are helpful on my end.

My dash was completely busted with stuff hanging everywhere. I was trying to get the lay of the land on how the harness/brackets/etc are supposed to be attached. I have some of the small brackets that I’ve no idea exactly where they go. I have another harness and dash to replace the crap that was in it. Some thieving bastard stole the stereo and broke the dash and hacked the wiring.

I thought took more pictures than this, but here is one of Erratic 50's dash when I was doing the stereo mods to it.

Thanks Chris and Trey! That shows a lot of the stuff I'm looking for. My car has dealer air, so it's not exactly the same, but most of it is. My dash literally came out in pieces and the original harness has been mostly unwrapped, a real mess.

Great build. We have a few things in common. I had a 1969 cougar followed by an 85 Capri prior to my 79 pace car. The Capri looks similar to your build.

cougarman67 - Great looking cars. I had an '86 Capri 5.0 and a '69 Cougar Eliminator. I sold the Capri and had the Cougar for awhile and took it to shows. Ended up not driving the Cougar very much so I sold it and finally got another '86 Capri. Seems like a common trend.

Cougarmanjr - Your build is going to be awesome. I can't wait to see it when you get it completed.

Wow.... feels like I will NEVER get back on this project.. or the others..... Already started to sell off a few other projects as I finally realized I will NEVER get to them... a few more to go. But I will not sell the Capri...

Going to get the car off the lift and move it to the front shop so I wont "forget" about it any longer!!!

hoping to get back to it this winter... measure and order wheels, finish exhaust, complete brake lines.... get rear end built... Need to find the motifivation but too much other "stuff" keeps poping up.

Thanks for adding the pics of the dash.... I need to dig through all my pics and start to get them organized to put back together.

Thinking of just building a basic/custom wiring harness for the car rather than putting in all the stock with stuff I dont need. Plan on all new aftermarket guages.... guess I will keep the HVAC functioning... obvious necessary stuff like headlights, blinkers, wipers, horn... still considering if I put a stereo back in or not

Also trying to decide if I just send it off to have a cage installed now as it is torn apart.. but do want to put somewhat of a "streetable" interior back in....

Looking forward to being able to provide updates soon!!!

Love your Merc's!!!! Was thinking of setting up my '70 Cougar pretty much just like you did, except mine is Cream Yellow (factor color)... had a vinyl top, have the hood scoop... and love the eliminator stripes!!! Only other thing I am thinking of is adding the Eliminator chin spoiler...
