Default Pace Car Fever project phase 2 begins!

I got the car back from the chassis shop this week. 10 point chromoly cage, 8.8 with Detroit Locker, coil over suspension, mini tubs, and strange disc brakes all around. The interior is out, the drive train is on craigslist and I am getting the car ready for rewiring and then body. This winter I need to tackle pulling the drive train and then turn my attention to the interior. I will be insulating the interior, relocating the battery, and installing the coyote control pack so the car will be ready to wire in February. In my spare time I have a full Team Z front end kit to install. K member, a arms, flaming river rack, coil overs with QA1 struts. This is a lot more fun than waiting for it to get out of someone else's shop

Quick question. I can insulate before the wiring right? I never insulated a project before because they were always drag cars when they were in this state of dis-assembly.

    A few picks to share:

As you can tell I am giving it a drag race inspired flavor. Ultimately I plan to put an Aluminator, with a 2.9 Whipple and an automatic tranny. Still haven't made a final decision on the trans. The interior will look stock save for a rear seat delete, Corbeau front seats, and Pro 5.0 gauge set up. Of course the cage doesn't look stock either. Then I have begun talking to an air brush artist from Swanton, OH (Pamela Shanteau) about air brushing some creative version of the Pace Car sticker kit instead of using stickers. Should be real nice if I can actually finish it.

I think you would want to insulate (youre talking hushmat or something similar right) before you wire. You want the wiring to run on top of the insulation (I assume), so you can service it if necessary. Sounds like a cool project, have fun!
    Cheers!

Mike, thanks for confirming insulation first. Seems obvious but I have been wrong before. I'm going with a product called FatMat. Had great reviews on Amazon.

Love how clean this car looks. I agree with Mike, insulation first, and wiring on top of that in case wiring repair/replacement is needed.

I am very happy with the wheels.

I'll post some more pics tomorrow. I am pulling the engine and tranny. Sold them both on Craigs List. Once they are out of the way it's time to put the Team Z front end kit on!

What are the specs on the wheels you are running?
    Size and offset?
    Tire size?

They look F'n sick by the way. Love that look with the beefy tires out back.

The rears are 15 x 11 and the fronts are 17 x 5. The chassis shop ordered them and I am not sure what the off set is. I can get that info on Monday.

Today the motor was pulled and the nose set up on the rolling bridge jack. Next weekend its time to put the Team Z front end under the car and to remove any unneeded crap from the engine bay. I am finally getting to turn some wrenches on this car. Loving every minute.

Todays progress was not all that I hoped. I got the steering rack, struts, and spindles out of the car. 8 bolts and I can drop the K member and A arms. Then the Team Z front end goes in. A few picks.

Big day at the garage. Cleared everything for the engine bay and underneath the car. A few pics below. Hope to finish the foundation this coming week. Just a little more cleaning and welding, and the painting under the car to set the foundation.

I had it done at Paul's High Performance in Jackson, MI. Paul Svinicki is "Paul" and is a great guy. I think his brother did the actual work and I couldn't be happier with the cage, tubs, coil over set up. He did a really nice set up for mounting the gas tank. The guy they had repair the floor missed some spots which you can see in the pictures below. The repairs he did make are good but he didn't get them all and he painted over some rust that began to show back through. I have the car stripped and I am wire brushing the whole underside in order to make complete repairs and deal with a little frame rust. I think I am going to use a bed liner product on the underside of the car when it is ready.
