Default First time to the track with the 82 GT

Last Wednesday was the first time I had my 82 GT to the track. Actually it was the first time in 20 years that I've had my own personal car to the track. The car is powered by a very mild 460 which is .030 over with flat top pistons... stock D3 heads with non adjustable rocker arms...an old general kinetics hydraulic .522 lift cam...torker 2 intake with an 850 holley double pumper. Transmission is a full manual c4 with a 4000 convertor...9" rear with 3.50 gears...strange adjustable shocks... and team z control arms.
Other than purchasing an oil pan, I fabricated my own headers and mounts to install the 460...
I was rewarded a 12.22 @ 109 with a 1.72 on a 46 degree night...yes, I know my combo is a little off, but the car was built with what I had laying around and on a very tight budget.

I love it! I'm all about true hot rods! Your 460 is making 400+ torque under the converter. That's plenty to hang the wheels on a Fox! The best part is she should be deadly consistent after you get it sorted.

I worked real hard on keeping the 460 under the stock hood. I've even left the original 5.0 badges on the fenders. Most of the younger guys don't have a clue to whats under the hood. When they find out, it seems to always lead into the small block vs big block debate and blah...blah...bottom line, it's an inexpensive engine that with a little more tuning, will be running high 11's next season...had a blast building this car and getting the reactions once they realize it's neither a 302 or 351 based engine.

Beautiful car that lifts the wheels, runs low 12's, and has a big block under the hood but you can't tell! Can you say WINNING! I love it!

It's not a show car.... There's no flash or bling under the hood lol! In fact I never washed off any of the 90,000 original miles of old road grime from the engine bay... Future plans do involve smoothing the engine bay along with body and paint.

Thanks! If the weather holds out this weekend, I'm going to make a few adjustments and try another test and tune session at the drag strip...Hopefully the changes will get it into the 11 second range.

So much potential there it's going to be hard not to get the "wanna go faster and faster" bug. I have a friend on another site who stuffed a stock 460 in a fox body about 3 years ago. Near as I recall he was running times similar to yours. He got the bug bad and one thing lead to another. Many upgrades later the last I heard he was running 9.6's. And I don't think he's satisfied yet!

So be forewarned. It could happen to you.

I've been on a 20 year hiatus from drag racing due to raising kids...I've got some catching up to do!

If you have forged pistons, all you need is a 150 N2O shot to go deep 11s. On a big block car with small tires, I'd leave on motor and bring the nitrous in for 2nd and 3rd gear top end.

I've got that covered already!....only when it's properly tuned first!

I've got a nice solid roller valve train that would do you some good. If interested PM me.
I'm like the ones above, I want to see under the hood.
