I was a little bored yesterday afternoon and had recently been looking at LED bulbs for the tail and signal lights. I decided to have a look at my tail lights to see what might fit and pulled them down from the attic. I had spent some time on them way back cleaning them up and such, but on second look, I decided that I could do better. I could see that the lens on one was not well sealed anymore and there was still some dust inside them so off came the lenses for a thorough cleaning. I cleaned out all the old sealant and scrubbed the insides of the lenses and housing clean. Now of course the silver reflective paint looked a little dull, so I went off and got some chrome metallic paint to respray them. a little masking and a quick spray has them much better now.

I left that to cure overnight and today went at reinstalling the lenses with new butyl sealant which Darran (82GTforME) had generously given me a bunch of a while back. The lenses are now reset and better sealed as well as being a lot cleaner inside. I used some more of the butyl to secure the gaskets onto the rear of the housings and now the tail lights are ready for installation when the car comes home.

there is one item though that I might need which is the rubber strip that fits onto the outer end of the light. I only have one. I'm not sure if this piece is a big deal or not, I can't seem to find any reference to it anywhere else and no apparent source for replacements. Any enlightenment on this or if someone has one to sell would be appreciated.

A little late but if you haven’t picked up headlight housing yet, JBs sells Vision X housings. They are about $80 each so not super cheap but they are DOT/SAE stamped. They accept standard bulbs...I’m running LEDs in mine and the low beams cutoff pretty well.

I haven't bought any lights yet. I am holding off until once the car is home again to worry about that. I will look into the JBs lights though, thanks for the info. I'm familiar with Vision X products as I've had a set of their LED driving lights on my motorcycle for years now.

Went up to the shop today to help with layout of the stripes. we spent about five hours getting it right. We started on the hood scoop as it was the place the stripes were most defined by the body lines. Once we had that nailed down, the rest of the sections were a lot easier. We followed the pattern for the 65 Shelby Mustang stripes almost exactly other than the stripes on the hood are slightly wider at the front edge to align with the taper of the scoop. On the trunk lid and the spoiler, the stripe will flow around the lock circle. The front bumper cover and air dam and the rear Saleen valance will get done once on the car to ensure they a properly aligned. He hopes to get the stripes sprayed starting tomorrow, so should have some pics once done.

Fenders and doors are getting painted. Those are the last parts to get paint so it should be mostly reassembly after the outsides are done.

I love the way the gray breaks up the red. This car is going to be really something when done.

The stripes are actually the original car colour, silver. We had to to go directly to the paint company to have them produce a paint mix for the correct code as it did not exist in the water base paints.

Its even more impressive in person the contrast of the two colours and how well they work together. I'm excited to see it out in the sunshine next summer.

It's back on its own wheels. Final clearcoat is done and he's working on the cut and polish.

    Looks pretty sweet!

Aren't you doing Saleen style side skirts and rear valance?

Yes, the skirts and valance are painted and ready to go on soon. We decided the stripes on the valance and front air dam would be best done after installation to ensure perfect alignment. That will probably be one of the last steps to get done. The valance will hide the mufflers too.

I don't know! It just doesn't seem to be coming together IMHO.

I think you should just sell it to me CHEAP and maybe I can do something with it.

Seriously starting to look like a real car again and looking really good! Congrats!
