    Default let me introduce myself

Hello I am new to this forum ! although I mostly work on cars from the 40s-60s, I also really like fox bodies. My current project is a 1981 fairmont futura wagon, which seems to be "loaded"- it has power locks, windows, seats, rear defrost/wiper, factory 8 track WITH power booster switch (!). It has a 255 v8 and so far I just switched it over to a t5 stick, keeping the bench seat. I have an 8.8 for it, and plan on putting a set of 289 or 260 heads with a tiny four barrel (or find an aluminum 1982 two barrel manifold with the "normal" size ports) and a small cam to spread out the power band some. I know that there isn't much love for the 255, and that I could make more power with a 302, etc., but to me the fun is in experimentation. ( i have a 331 stroker on a stand from a previous car, so I am aware of the 302's potential)..I plan to keep the car very drivable, as it shares my daily chores with my 1950 ford shoebox. I will post some pics whenever I figure out the appropriate format size….

    Hi!

That sounds interesting and you must have been doing some research on the 255 - I vaguely recall hearing 289/260 heads will fit the smaller piston 255. I'd really like to hear how far you can push the 255.

Later on I may bug you about where the spray nozzle for the rear window wiper is mounted - I harvested the entire rear wiper set up from a wrecking yard wagon but didn't get the dimension of where everything was located -oops.

Yes, please post pictures and I'd like to see your '50 Ford too.

    Welcome to the site!

Another member "Blainer" just rebuilt one of these for his 82 Mustang. No major mods done though. http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...ht=255+blainer

Hello thanks everybody…..still have not been able to load photos. But a quick message I must add: when researching the 255, I came up with a lot of crazy info on the internet regarding the balance of the motor. Some say its 28 oz, some say its 50, and many said it was neither, that it had its own balance. So when I was doing the flywheel I was a bit nervous. However, I took it to a machine shop and checked and can say this for the record : The 1981 255 is in fact a 50 oz balance. Mine does still use v belts , but it is most definitely 50 oz. I used a 90 mustang flywheel, same era bell housing, cable mechanism and clutch, and have racked several thousand miles now……totally smooth….
so there. its a 50 oz!

Welcome to the wagon club! Looks like both of ours may have left the factory the same color. The 260 heads would be closest to your bore size. 260 - 3.800 bore. 255 - 3.680 bore. 289 - 4.000 bore - same as a 302. I have a few sets of 260 heads when you get ready for a swap, contact me and maybe we can work out a deal.
