On the black car with the non asc steering wheel. My other asc has the same issue no leather wheel. Why did full production coupes not get leather wheels ?

Mine is just a plain Jane 2.3 non turbo 4 speed. I's a little rough I need to change the front fenders and doors.
The motor is getting tired too. I'm looking at a older Ranger nearby that may have a 4 in it.
I have changed to an 80 hatch and tail lights. $800 Craig's list find in 2011.

The steering wheel in my car is the cruise control wheel. The car was ordered with cruise control so it didn't get the 3 spoke ASC wheel. . The wheel is leather wrapped.

Ken, both of mine gave leather steering wheels and shift knobs the one in the white one was worn through in spots and I put a cover over it. The black car is badly worn at 10 and 2 on the wheel. The shift knob was badly worn on the 5-speed it is actually pretty good on the automatic. The euro coupe wasn't supposed to have the leather wheel or shift knob but mine did it gas all full production coupe options which according to all docs were not available except the air horn and radar detector. The auto car has those options and detector is still there. I happened on a new wheel for the euro.

Unfortunately, since I own two 83s and you can only vote for each year once, the pole numbers are off a little.

That looks like a "Capri 5.0L" (formally known as "Capri RS") to me, not a Capri GS. You probably have a "GS" badge on the rear liftgate?

GSes did not come with air dam, foglamps, Charcoal trim around the front, side, or rear glass, or "Sport" seating.

"RS" code stamped to the buck tag means it's a Capri 5.0L.

I actually won a trophy (Best 30 Cars) at the Summit Racing Ford Mustang show in August in Tallmadge, OH. I think it was due more to lack of participation than anything. Weather was threatening but didn't appear until we were most of the way home.

That's a GS on the tail.

As it was explained to me at the time, if you wanted the V8 with an auto tranny you got an RS with EFI. If you wanted a V8 with manual tranny you got the GS with carb. I was ok with that because I was more comfortable with carbs than the new-fangled efi at the time.

Can't get a new Focus for numbers like that.

For whatever reason, 5.0L came with Fogs, air dam, side molding and handling package as standard.

But your car is a Capri 5.0L (formally known as Capri RS), not a GS.

That is the Internet lore I hear but I haven't seen any factory literature to back it up. Anyway, it never did happen that way. Both models came both ways.

Where it says "Capri 5.0L" on your window sticker, that is the model name, not the engine. Mercury changed the "Capri RS" model name to "Capri 5.0L" in 1985. Capri 5.0L came standard with with all of those items but handling suspension and traction-lok rear axle were standard with the 5.0L engine regardless or which model it came in (5.0L engine was optional in Capri GS).

I have heard of the "non existent" GS 5.0 5 speeds......

I've got the Marti report too, no mention of a GS option. It doesn't break down the builds between GS/RS so no idea if it is a rebadged RS. It does reflect the red with charcoal lower, 5.0L and 5 spd trans., articulated sport seats....... and a 2.73 rear!?!?!?!

Also, I thought the GS's had the letters in the side trim also.

Either way..... I am looking forward to getting the car put together finally. I bought it almost 15 years ago and it has been sitting, stored in my barn/work shop for over 10 yrs. Now thanks to the kids getting older and the motivation of a good friends, I am finally getting things moving again.

WOW.... getting late after a short night last night.... Again I meant to say "RS" on side trim. Did they stop putting "RS" on them in '85? And yes, there was a "GS" on the hatch (it got knocked off and lost when we were moving it out of it's hibernation location.......)
