Just a little update - I'm aware I've not been on this site for a while. I'll come back soon and look through everyone elses progress in the coming weeks!

I managed to blow the cobwebs off and get the mustang through its annual MOT inspection ready for some driving this summer hopefully.

She was feeling a little neglected, but some super unleaded (99 RON) in the tank and a charge of the battery and she drove fine.

Had a few problems the last month or so, trying to get it going again for summer. A perished fuel line meant a mysterious lack of fuel pressure into the engine bay and led to me missing one of my favourite shows at the beginning of the season.

    Thats all fixed now though, along with new fuel lines all over, and a basic service (plugs, air filter). She's running better than ever before now, and I got her out to an american car meet at an american themed diner thats recently reopened near me;

There are quite a few others in our club (Fox Doctors UK) - Ford seem to have converted about 15-20 of them back then, all 79-82 models. We have pictures of quite a few others and most of them are still on the road or in garages in different states of repair/restoration/modification. Perhaps we should just have a thread where I dump all the information we have!

I think all of the official Ford of Europe converted ones are the same, and are unique to these cars. One of our club members found the brand name, contacted them, and they have given us original drawings for the units. They must have been commissioned along with some other companies who made the RHD dash etc by Ford of Europe back in the early 80s, and I still don't think we know where they were finally put together.
I believe some of the non-official ones converted by outside companies (including some early mustangs and Mustang II's) use Range Rover steering racks.

Still got plenty more plans to take it out this year, so hopefully more pictures soon. Once i've had some work done at home to create better storage for it I'll hopefully do some more work to it too!

I've got the old English BurmanCortina 80 (so called MkV, but really a RHD Taunus TF) with powered rack and pinion, the useless clamped mounts. CamGears made the non assisted versions in England.

Adwest made Jaguar, Aston Martin, Jensen Interceptor/ FF used a similar powered rack and pinion system, which was also made by Burman and Lockheed under licence.

So did Hyundai, who used it from Burman for the the repulsive Cortina based Hyudnai Stella.

The British Leyland SDI and TR8 Triumph Burman sytem is similar, the Cortina Mk IV/Cortina 80(so called Mk v) and Granada MkII systems are similar to the Australian TE/TF Cortina, but the difference is that RHD Aussie system uses the 100% robust bolted TRW Pinto/Mustang II/Fox mountings.

Compared to the 1979 TRW rack on at the junkyards Mustang...its just a handed version of it.

The later Capri, Sierra, Granada Mk III/Scorpio Mekur, had similar internals, different casting, mountings, and tie/track rods.

They all run Jaguar style torsion bars, 0.19, 0.210, 0.235, 0.250".

The Aussie one was essentially the only RHD version of the US Fox body power rack and pinion steering.

For internal parts, they are the same, the external alloy casting or presses steel Locheed type, you can get them if you network. Of course, Fords UK wing Tickford did the Mustang Cobra RHD swap,

so FEP's Townsville Australia man Ausfox http://vb.foureyedpride.com/member.php?10313-Ausfox

would likely be the best person to contact.

They were really common P/S swaps for those old hot rod Holdens, the L34, SLR 5000 or SS5.0 or A9X 308 Holden Torana's, but these days, you can easily find a RHD Subaru Forester rack and convert it, but it uses the inferior clamped center section.

TRW did all the production engineering for the US steering from the English development work, and also made p/s units for the GM T cars, which you find on the net all the time.

eg TRW 15713R Steering Rack And Pinion (With Power Steering).

Hey anyone here know where uncleterry's gone.

Tried Fox doctors Uk, but nothing. Zap's 85 GT in Southby's about 34 miles away.

I'm overseas again and will be for a few more years. I bought a 88 LX coupe 5.0 AOD to fiddle with. Car is quite rare in the UK and I bought it because everyone else that wanted it did so because they wanted to race it or strip the car for the drivetrain. More or less the owner sold it to me because I was going to restore it and nor race or strip it. I did need a lot of work because of rust. New roof, drivers door, two patch panels and still needs a quarter panel. Going to be a full rotisserie style restoration. It would be in paint by now but I've been waiting for my quarter panel coming from the states for four months and it's not going to get here until January. I bought an electroplating kit and have been restoring every nut, bolt and piece of hardware that I can. It will be over restored but with some tasteful modifications. Keeps me busy.

I'm trying to track down some of his LED lights that he was working on.

    Hi xctasy,
Apologies for the huge delay! But yeah I'm still around and the Mustang is still going. I'll do an update on the major work thats been going on this year some point later.
I am still on foxdoctorsuk Facebook group. If you search for me there I'm still around and posting fairly regularly there.
Remind me what it was with regards to LED lights we were discussing before? I've planned a lot of things in the past but can't remember that one, let alone whether I tried it or not in the end!

    Big update on my Mustang:

Being a sunroof model & in the UK, considerable parts of the roof had corroded. I began stripping the upper & rear interior out of it around April 2021 just after it had come back from a nearby specialist for some attention to the Brakes. It went back to this specialist end of May 2022 to have parts of the roof cut out and replaced with non-rusty donor sheet metal and a few custom made pieces:

I now have it back, with a heavy 2k satin black coating on all this new sheet metal:

And I've started refitting the interior; Rear Quarter Panels cleaned up, repainted as close to the original red as I can find. Parcel Shelf recovered in a similar Red Cotton Fabric. New insulation pads made for the back of the rear quarter panels and the rear bulkhead. New rear seat upholstery from TMI kit:

More interior updates when I get round to the front seats...
