Even though it is some what of a pain, I would still suggest removing and painting them separately given the gasket material. I am hopeful someone starts producing an aluminum version of the "hockey sticks".

so an updates on my convertible top closing issues. I took it back to Automat yesterday. they kept it overnight and had to partially disassemble the thing to adjust it in the back. I was told it should close easier now. I didn't get to test it because I picked it up after hours and it looked like rain so I didn't want to chance taking the top down.

I will try it this weekend and will post back how it went. I big thanks to Automat for being pleasant and willing to take the car back in a year later with no hassles. A very professional place.

Yes, that sounds like a professional shop that you are dealing with there.
Let's hope that they have fixed it for you.
    Post how it goes please.

    Nice vert!!!

I used the ACC carpet, had no problems. Even gave a review.

I don't know anything about canvas tops, mine has vinyl. I think $1500 for replacement is fair if it includes new pads and glass window. Buy separate and have new cables installed as well.

They did a nice job on correcting the issue. I had the top down all day Saturday and it closed very easy. Automat in Hicksville NY is very expensive, but they are indeed top notch.

Now, the rest of the moulding comes off, correct? How difficult is it to remove the door trim?
    The moulding around the windshield?
The moulding on the doors... Are they adhered on? I have also read that they can shrink and get "wavy".

The windshield moulding has snap clips. There is a trim tool to get under the moulding and release those clips. Door trim along top of door is screwed or rivoted fast and may have a clip or two. Not sure what you mean on the rest of the door trim. A good investment is the Convertible Top repair manual. Had how disassemble all the trim, convertible top parts and even the windows. Very awesome resource. CJ Pony parts sells it, couple ebay stores carry it and I think Late Model Resto has it too. Best $25 I ever spent. Hope this helps.

Ok vert guys. I am trying to go wider on my rear tires. I am running 245/50r17s on my 01 Bullit rims now. Thinking of going to 275/40r17s. Has anyone else done this size? Any clearance issues? I already have quad shocks off.

Not sure, I'm on 15" turbines.....
Might have to roll the lip flat on the fender? and I've heard some cat back tail pipes can rub with a 275 on a 17". But then I've heard peeps running 275 on 17" and having no rub issues at all (quads gone only).

You have to shop around more. I had my vinyl top installed for $800.00. $1000.00 if I count new lift cylinders. They also did a great job. My first quote was also $1500.00.

Hey vert guys. This is a great thread! I've had my top on for years, and it's still holding up well.

Lately, I've been having issues with water getting in the trunk. I have another thread going in the body shop section because I found out the leaking is related to the top and water drainage: http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...t-not-why-Pics

Before I go taking things apart or trying to modify the water drainage route, it would be immensely helpful if some of you could take some pictures of the channel around the back of the well and let me know how things drain on your cars (see linked thread). Specifically, do you get water in that channel and how does it drain? If the car is parked facing up an incline, does that channel just fill with water?

Pictures can be posted in my original thread or here if you think that's better. Thanks again.

That's a great price. I've changed out the cylinders myself on mine about 8 years ago, fairly simple job if you take your time.

I'll have look tomorrow (it's my day off...) but I don't think I've ever had water in that area on mine? Mine is an 88 but the 83-90 should all be the same. The 91-92 are different and the 93 differs from both.

Mine looks good, dry, a little seepage over the years but not to bad (on my 3rd top).

Main drain area is behind that "trough" and feeds into a black plastic tray on both sides.

And then drains out under the car by hose.

Oh man thanks for those pictures!

I still don't understand how the water gets into the black tray. Do you have a hole in the back trough/channel there that lets it through? Where is this "main drain" you speak of?

From what I can tell the main drain area gets no water from the trough, it's behind the trough and drains the water that rolls off the back of the window.
If I can find the time I will remove the black plastic tray and see what's behind those things.
