    Default 86-0188 :(

I heard talk on SCOA of it being added to the "dead Saleens" list but I couldn't find any details. Well, I finally found it.

So sad! Looks like a low mileage car too! I sent it to Dan, if anyone can save it... he can!

It's been repainted at least once before, not sure why. Not sure if the mileage shown (28,296) is actual.

I read on Buckeye Stangs it caught fire while driving to the Mustang meet at Summit Racing (Ohio). The driver smelled fumes then smoke but by the time he got it pulled over it was already on fire.

As of 8/22/2014 the Ohio title type is "salvage" and the owner is AMCO Insurance Company.

What a damn shame. I wonder why the owner decided to let it go, or if the Insurance company forced it or didn't allow buy-back for some reason? Still seems like too nice of a car to let it go to the auction.

    Ouch. That sucks.

Wonder if it was alternator/wiring related?

I too thought it might be alternator wiring related, since it looks like the car has the original style alternator.

    Gentlemen,
The owner of this car "before" it caught fire is a close & personal friend of mine; He was on his way to the Summit Car Show when car caught fire; one of the blacked plastic fuel lines cracked and up it went..... Very, very SAD !
The car did have 1 repaint and that was due to it sitting outside in Arizona and the sun just cooked the paint, along with fading the interior out !
The previous owner was working on restoring the car back a little bit at a time and was just "Sickened" when the fire happen; along with a bunch of us who was enjoying the progress he was making !

The car I believe can be saved and that is the plan; I'm waiting for the car to sale and I actually have ALL the parts to restore the car back to its original condition !!! The fire did get into the inside of the car also behind the dash which is why it will need a Complete Wiring Harness for the car.....and as you know, that is a 1 year only harness! :-( It will also need a complete new suspension, body parts, dash, dash pad, carpet, and possibly engine......
Luckily, I have all the parts to put it back !
The car had a ton of documentations to it along with some of the Saleen specific parts that I now have; I am the one who put the aftermarket wheels on the car !!
So don't give up on the ol girl, she will be restored !!!

If the insurance company cannot establish a salvage value they supposedly can force the owner to send it to auction in order to receive the settlement. This is per State Farm claims

What's the concern about the alternator? A few people thought that was the cause (before the owners friend told us what happened) and I want to make sure it doesn't happen to me. Also, where are those plastic fuel lines located? I assume in the engine bay, but is that specific to 86?
    Cheers!

The alt plug on that era Fords was a fire trap. It would overheat and melt the wiring and usually something plastic caught fire and then it was Toasted Fox. If you have a Ford of that era with an original alt plug, CHANGE IT.
