You've seen that I've done, I'm sure you can imagine what I'm about to do.
Just to give you an idea of how wide the IMSA / Trans Am flares are compared to a stock fender.
The notch you see on the fender just below the driver side A pillar / windshield post is the stock fender line. You would still have the slight wheel arch/lip at the wheel opening, but all the flare of the racing fenders dwarfs the OEM pieces. I am not at home to measure right now, but IIRC the fenders add @ 9" of additional clearance on each side. So 18" of additional width to the car.

That's a lot of body on a little fox. Maybe this is stupid of me to ask but what's the point in that?

It's the same old story, started out with stock setup, then wider tires, well that worked well, so let's go even wider. Well that won't fit under the fenders, well add some flares. Ok that worked better, how 'bout going a bit wider, well that will take wider flares, ok. That worked Great! How about a wider front track with even wider front wheels and even wider flares! And On and On and On!
As with so much of this, most of the time the track width and overall width is adjusted to make different cars more competitive with other cars in a class. Then it just gets out of control and before you know it you have cars that share little if any resemblance to their origins. Hmm Nascar, etc. Although I will say that IMHO at least the late 70's-mid to late 80's the IMSA GTO/GTU and Trans AM series cars did resemble their nameplates at least until the 87-90 years as the cars got further and further away from the stock bodies. The mid 80's cars such as the one my bodywork is off of definitely stretched the OEM shape to it's limits, but the car was still recognizable as a Capri or Mustang and still used stock shaped hoods, roofs, rear hatches. The front and rear bumpers looked like OEM just widened. The flares and the doors are the biggest departures from stock, but at least IMHO they are some of the coolest looking cars/race cars! I was in high school watching them race and still love the look and sound of them today.

Oh I'm not saying it's bad in anyway it's just that sometimes they get so far away from the original it almost makes you laugh to call it a fox anymore.

I completely understand. There are things I love about the full tube chassis cars and then things I like about the Unibody based cars. Both have a cool style and look. The 87-93 and then the 94-04 cars are what you mean in that they are hard to distinguish as Mustangs without all the decals and name plates on them because the body work is so far from OEM. It's the same issue I have with NASCAR. The current cup cars are almost impossible to tell apart without the decals and faux headlights/taillights. The Nationwide cars are better IMHO as the new Mustang, Camaro, and previous Challenger bodies were more distinctive on the front and rear in regards to the real cars.

NASCAR is exactly what I mean. You can call in a charger or Taurus or whatever you want but they are all the same sheet metal body that isn't even close to any of those. I understand for certain reasons they call them that and what not but it's a bit of a stretch.

Open up a photobucket account, it's free. You can get the app to directly upload from your phone. Once the pics are there you can resize, and edit the photo ( to include rotating it to the correct orientation).
I'm not sure, but unless you use a hosting website like photobucket, sooner or later you're gonna exceed the bandwidth that this forum allows each of us to host your uploaded pictures. (ask me how I know this)
