Default Master Cylinder to Prop Valve Lines

    1985 LX Coupe 5.0 5 Speed Manual

Destroyed the two lines from the master to the prop valve while removing master and booster (updating OEM units). Not ready to upgrade brakes yet so staying with stock. Question is, the two lines have a specific spiral shape to them...do I bend them myself or are these available for sale new?

    Thanks in advance...

I made my own when I upgraded the brakes and MC on my 82. I cannot see the need for the spiral. Was it just to make install easier and more forgiving?

Thanks Trey, I will give them a call.

The spiral is my biggest concern 82GT...my question exactly. If they can be installed without the spiral, I'll do it myself.

I think I may still have the ones off my 84 somewhere, PM me if you're interested and I'll check.

I won't say that the spiral is an absolute necessity, but I believe the spiral is there to aid in installation and remove and to provide some spring or give to the lines from normal vibration and movement so that they don't break, bend, crease, etc. and cause a braking issue. I am sure you could make your own, but IMHO I would add some type of spiral or loop to do the same thing. I would not run the lines straight from the Master Cylinder to the Proportioning Valve.

    Good Luck!

Not straight on my install, I routed them the same as they were. I think as long as there is some give you should be okay. As far as I know (pretty much 100%) my 82 never had any spirals ever.

Default Master Cylinder to Prop Valve Lines

Thanks. If mine would have had the spirals originally I would have tried to simulate that though. Note the one in my picture is the 1" '85 Town Car MC.
I tried to get my bends smoother but I only had a set of 1/4" lever benders. These lines are 3/16" and a couple of the bends are tight! I used a coat hanger and made a rough template to estimate the length and shape. Having enough straight end to flare was tough too.
I think there are plenty enough bends for vibration/flex etc. in this case.

    Love the coat hanger idea!
