SSP Steel Wheels

Is there a trick to installing the little plastic inserts into the wheels, that the screws go through to hold the caps on ? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I would think they would just pop right in, did you have to get new ones?
Also are you holding out on us with pictures ?

It looks like I might have to pop them in with a hammer ! The plastic is hard and of course the back must be compressed in order to snap in...just wondering if anyone else had the same problem. Not really holding out, my car isn't an SSP , just an 85 5.0 Coupe. I have always liked the look of black wheels and hub caps on Muscle Cars dating as far back as the 60's...and yes I am that old lol. So that's the look I am going for, kind of a tough understated look. As far as pictures go,...I really don't no how to download them here.

on an original set I restored the org inserts were so brittle I broke more than half just removing them, I found some replacements
at a local Ace hardware but grabbed the smaller size for re-fit testing but haven't picked up ones to work because the SSP is just sitting
& the caps are hidden away nice & safe..I like the simple look of a stamped steel wheel also...Hmmm I must be old too...
Have you tried loading pic's into photobucket & attaching them from there?

Thanks Guy's,I finally got them on, I couldn't find any SSP Caps so I went with chrome look caps that came on 80's Pinto's with the optional aluminum wheels. The
middle of the cap is red and kind of sets off the red pinstripe on my car.

Picked up a set of 4 SSP Steelies for 1985 and 1986. They are used but in excellent shape and still have the factory Ford part number label on the insides.
The only part of the puzzle is the elusive center caps are missing. Anyone out there looking to sell any? What about the Escort center caps? I've read the 1985 and 1986 center caps fit on the rear only and the caps for the front are short by .750 inches.

the center caps are like unicorns & will cost as much if you can find a set..The escort caps can be modified to fit, another fella had a thread on doing so but can't remember where it's at. Here's my set after a little cleaning with #0000 steel wool & some chrome cleaner.
