82 GT w/Recaros

In 1985 I was the second owner of an 82 Dark Canyon Red GT with Recaros, AC, rear defrost TRX wheels any idea how many GT's came with recaro's that year. I actually bought th eused GT over a new leftover 84 because of the seats. I have seen the pacecars and quite a few Capri's but only mine and one other 82 GT also red with them.

You would have to have Kevin Marti do some special research to find out how many 82GT's came with the a Recaro seat option. I doubt he would include that statistic as the free random stat he includes in the Deluxe Reports.

Those seats were around an $800 option back in 82 so I'm sure the numbers are pretty low, but I don't think there is any other way to find out specifically.

I don't blame you for passing on a newer GT in favor of an 82GT with Recaro's. The 82GT is better looking than the 83/84's (IMO) and add Recaro's and it's a no brainer. I assume your seats are the black variety?

Even if Marti Auto did include the Recaro seating option statistic on the deluxe report, it would be for that body code in the VIN ("16" in this case). It would not be for the GT only. In only a few cases is VIN body code for only one model. Most of the time two or more models share the code. For example, 1982 GLX has it's own code (12 for coupe, 13 for hatchback), but L and GL share code 10 for coupe and L, GL, and GT share code 16 for hatchback.

The interior trim is included as a production statistic on deluxe reports but it is combined with the paint code, and again for all models with that VIN body code.

All of the production statistics on deluxe reports are by VIN body code.

I've never seen the caramel, those are pretty sweet looking! I've only seen the Recaros in black. How many different colors did they come in?

In 79 all you could get was black and only in the PC. For 1980 you could get caramel, vaquero, Wedgewood blue, and black. For 81-82 you could get vaquero, Wedgewood blue, and black.

If you search around this site as well as google, you should be able to find some pics of the blue, caramel, and vaquero. The black are pretty rare, but these other colors are almost impossible to find nowadays. The material wasn't the most durable, so most got trashed over time (plus not many were ordered to begin with).

No red though, huh? I wouldn't mind having Recaros as an upgrade, but I think I would like them to match the rest of the interior. I do have the red leather low backs, but thought those look more comfortable...

No, the closest they made to red was vaquero...but that's more of a burnt orange/red/maroon type color.

You could always get a set of Recaro's and have tmi make some custom upholstery in your stock red color and material. That's the best of both worlds, the only down side is you won't get that cool recaro zig zag pattern.

Wow, those seats have been maintained beautifully. Typically the center section gets damaged over time, but yours still look new. That truely is the best option Ford made available for our cars.

The seats are original to the car but I had new TMI seat covers installed about two years ago. Like you said the center sections were really worn. The drivers seat fabric on side of seat was all but gone.

I asked that too, because of how nice those black Recaro's look. He said he had them reupholstered using a kit from tmi.
