Looks pretty damn close for eyeballing.
I spent almost an hour measuring and taping to make sure mine were right!

Wish I had a camera that day the red aero GT convertible rode through Spencer when we were at the truck show - that was the first one I had seen above the fender crease!

Heh heh, I don't even know where the 5.0 should be after looking at all these! I think the ones on my '89 fell off and I pulled off the only one left on my '84 because I didn't like the asymmetry.

the front edge of the 5.0 emblem installed 3 inches in from the wheel opening at the molding and 1-1/2 up from the fender molding will get you close enough

I'll measure the original placement on my 83 capri tomorrow just to see.

my 83 capri 5.0 badges which I believe are in the original location are

3-3/8 back from the wheel opening
1-5/8 up from the fender molding
1-1/2 from the the fender/door gap

    my 92 5.0 badges are

3 in. back from the wheel opening
1-1/2 up from the fender molding
    1-7/8 from the fender/door gap

Do you think Ford measured when they put them on, or just "eyeballed" it? I figured they eyeballed it, and they probably did it enough that they got it within a half inch one way or another. It might be fun to do a comparison on, say all one year of cars, and see how close they are. I bet they would range more than we think.

I would think they used some type of template but who knows?

I'm pretty sure that they did use a template. Probably something they laid against the body that fit up against the crease and door gap. It would take less time to lay something against the body and stick the emblem on than to have to eyeball it and get it straight, and assembly lines are all about time.

    Great thread for reference

So where are the front SVO emblems supposed to go? They are quite small. I installed one I was missing and I copied the other side placement and now I am not sure when I look at it?
