Update and a couple questions. Running very good first off. Keep finding more things to replace. Working on it slowly as I'm trying to enjoy it some. Still need a dash and column. Ok what mpg is every one getting. it started at 14 but has gone to 19. Havent done a thing to the engine yet but replace what breaks. Also the ICU box. I assume thats what its called is it engine specific? If I need to replace mine does it have to be for a 83 5.0 ho or will they work from other engines? Maybe even a 4?
Are you meaning the DuraSpark ignition box? From what I've learned here, I think each box will work on a 4, 6, or 8 cylinder engine. But there are a still few different kinds of boxes, and they're identified by the color of their sockets, where the harnesses from the dizzy and the rest of the car plug in.
What color is yours? If it's the wrong one, someone here can tell you which is the correct one. I think one of the boxes is California-specific, and the other two are 49-state applications.
And a MotorCraft unit is the only one to use. Aftermarket copies from the McParts stores are said to be not as good.
If you've got good junk yards in your area, with some early '80s stuff, I'd just pull one from a car there. I'd be looking at '82 and later models - but earlier ones may work too. I'm not sure what was the first year for the ign. boxes in carb'ed 5.0 HOs. Not sure that they didn't change between '82 and '85 either.

My sockets are grey. I was just wondering if it goes out I can use the one in a 4cyl car sitting here.
took the Dash out today. More crap but no more dead mice. Going to do the heat box and spray everything down with cleaner. I dont think all the turds will ever be gone untill its stripped and acid dipped LOL.

The part you are looking for the color on is the plastic where the wires go into the module. Yours should be blue.
1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.
2004 GT convertible, 2001 Taurus LX, 1994 F150, 1950 F-1 Ford Pickup
Yes that is blue. Couple pics of it tore apart. now the fun comes. 3 more dead mice. 8 total and several pounds of crap.
I heard that leaving an open box of baking soda in a car will repel those varmint mice.

I wish the PO at least tried that. Rather than beat the $hit out of it. Started putting the dash back in. Good thing is it dont stink inside any more.
Found some good news too. I had a old traction loc and gears I pulled out of a wreaked 85 turbo bird. Thought it was a 8.8 and set it aside and never looked at it. At the time was driving my 2.3 so power wasnt a issue. Got to looking on the net and 85 was the switch over year for the 8.8 on the bird. Dug out the carrier and gears and its a 7.5. I have a extra 7.5 laying around so I'm going to put it together and use it.
I know a 8.8 would be the best but its not in the funding right now. It only has a 7.5 open now anyway. when i can afford a 8.8 for the capri then this can go in my 2.3 if I ever get that going again. So any tips on building this rear up?

Got the dash back in. No more stinky smell. The heater core was so packed full of mouse turds I just replaced it. Used the instrument trim out of my 82. I like the "woodgrain" better. Still need a pad or cover my old one. Not looking for perfection so going to find the few missing pars throw some carpet in and worry about the exterior , suspension and anything else that comes up.

Yea I fell in love with it and had to have it. Just like the capri.
Just so everyone knows still making progress. Been driving it and enjoying it very much. Pick of my electric fan update. Got it out a 4cyl capri. Had to get creative with spacing to make room. It will keep the 5.0 cool too. Also a couple pics of the seat bottoms. Can the CC "covers" be removed? Looks like they can be. Lite to remove and wash as they are still very stained.
The covers can be removed, although there is more to it than just the plastic pieces shown in the pictures above. You will have to cut/remove hog rings that hold the upholstery to the seat. Not a big deal with a set of side cutters, but you will definitely want a pair of hog ring pliers to install new hog ring when you put the covers back on, as well as a bunch of hog rings.
You can pick up hog rings at some local upholstery supply stores, as well as the pliers or you can order some from most of the Mustang Vendors. I would also recommend ordering a new set of lower seat springs for at least the driver side seat. As you can see in the photos the driver side is bowed and the passenger looks to be almost brand new.
Take care removing the covers and washing them as you don't want to damage them. Also double check the seams carefully and you might consider having any areas that look weak or ragged being reinforced by a local upholstery shop before you reinstall so you don't tear anything. A garbage bag over the foam before installing the covers helps the cover to slide on.
Good Luck!

Congrats making progresd is always a good thing... I currently am dealing with mice... and its no fun... I feel your pain im glad you were able to get them out and smell gone!
This is exciting, never heard of a Crimson Cat before. It seems to have the "human" factor on the assembly line. I bet things like this happened often, who knows what story this car could tell if it could speak. Awesome....
I'm sure it would be pissed at previous treatment. I know it was through a fence and in a ditch. Was driven hard on gravel roads also. Surprisingly I still have not done anything to the engine other than oil changes and a broken rotor(first day when do they ever break?) and leaky acc pump. I think I'll leave the seats alone for now. Want to try the escort seats just to save the CC ones but that are proving not to be a bolt in. Going to have to drill and tap a new hole in escort base for the fox rails.

Came home on the hook (flatbed) yesterday. Wouldnt start at the store. Crank but no fire. Walked to orielys and got a coil but no help. Called for tow paying for it anyway on insurance.. My trailer is apart right now anyway. Got home swapped out the ignition box and fired up. The plain looking one is the fail. Aftermarket? Also got one of the escort seats in. Except for color and net looks the same as the originals.
Neat project! 11/82 build very interesting! Keep up the good work!

Got the escort pass seat in and didnt have to drill it. With the red "hot wheels" covers never know. Feel a little firmer. Found the screws for the tilt and tightened it up to so something I dont need to look for. For being a open rear it stays even pretty good. Another sticker besides my frog I'm keeping on.
Still have a starting issue. Think its in the switch or a wire in the column. Going to tear into it this weekend. Also going through my stuff looking for trailer parts and found a replacement for my broken emblem. What the best way to remove the old and attach the new?
Heat gun should work to remove old badge...
Love the Chevy sticker. Lol
