225/50/16? 225/55/16? Any other suggestions?

A 225 is generally the best fit on a 7" wheel. You can go larger, but usually not more than a 245 and even that is usually bulging at the sidewalls.
The 225/50/16 is probably your best option as the 55 series will be taller and may cause clearance issues if the car is lowered.
Good Luck!

I agree with Trey, I am running the 225/50/16 on mine with no issues other that they rub slightly on the inner fender on full lock.

I'm running Riken 16x7's with 225/50-16 tires. I haven't noticed any rubbing up front (so far) and the car was recently lowered with Eibach Sportlines. As Trey mentioned, the 50's are a little shorter than the 225/55-16's, but they are also a little wider. Unless your car is lowered, I'd recommend the 55's to help fill up the wheel well a little better, but that's just my opinion on appearance.
I'd like to try a 245 tire on these wheels, but wonder how this would affect handling ... would this make the tires feel "squishier"?

I was thinking of going 225/55/16 with a 1" drop.do you guysv think that's a problem?
I'm running 225/55 16 on my 86. The diameter was the closest to the original 225/60 15 tires. This way your speedo is not affected. And no problem with rubbing, and my wheels have 4.00 backspacing so they stick out another 1/2 inch and still no rubbing issues. And it is lowered. 225 is not that wide, I wouldn't think anyone would run into rubbing issues.
