Default 1981 Cougar box top 2 dr

A friend found this sitting for sale in a side yard so I had to run and check it out. I can't remember when I have ever seen a two door box top Cougar. Purchased this car out of Las Vegas as a non runner and trailered it home. Was hoping the wife would love it and I could keep two Cougars... Well that didn't work. So I went to work getting it back on the road. Replaced the Harmonic Balancer, battery, and flushed out old fuel. This baby runs very well now. She is an unmolested original including paint and interior. Paint is shiny but there are numerous wear and tear spots. Interior is mostly in excellent shape other than the seat bottoms have a couple tears and the dash pad will need replaced. Door panels, rear seat and headliner are excellent. Original cougar hubcaps. Some of the exterior stainless has dents but I pulled a bunch of extras that go with the car. Hood ornament is gone. Needed it for my XR7. Sorry! 3.3 6 cyl, auto with AC that works. Original am radio still in the car. Was told that the mileage is original at 30k. But no way to really verify that. Nevada puts exempt on the titles when they are this old. The wear and tear from tons of mileage is not present so It is possible that it is the original miles. Let me know if interested. It was hard to choose which Cougar to keep. Car is located in Peoria AZ , 85383. 623 76o 6795. Asking. $1900. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1400440149.035416.jpg

Nice car. Really nice interior. For its uniqueness alone, I would be tempted.

This is one of those cars that I know I am gonna kick myself down the road for letting go. Fairmont and zephyr box tops I can find all day long out west. But this Cougar has eluded me for some time. Same as my XR7. It's so original.

Heck for what you are asking, keep it, park it outside and put a cover over it. Cool car but wife said no, already have too many at the moment.

So honestly, is it the cost of the car? No one has extra dough? Wife's saying you want what now? Lol. I have $1100 in this car. That is purchasing, transporting, and repairing. I really want it to go to someone that appreciates the beauty that is an 81 Cougar, and make a little money for my time, $100 or so. But I will let it go to someone here for that price if anyone wants it. Let me know. I have got a line on a wagon that might get junked if it is not saved with greenbacks soon and I wanna save it.

The price is more than reasonable. I paid double that for a similar car in worse condition. I think most people just don't know what an '81 Cougar is. It might just take some time. It's likely that vast numbers of people aren't on the web searching for "'81 Cougar for sale". Those things are even more forgotten than Fairmont/Zephyrs. You need to get that thing (or a picture at least) in front of people. Take it to cruise nights and shows. I found mine at a show.

I agree. Problem is it is now averaging 105 degrees out. Little too hot to get out to the car shows/cruise nights. But we will see

Damn damn damn! Your Cougar is in really nice condition and I have an extra hood ornament (it's suppose to be a spare for the wagon). The price is fine. If I wasn't in the middle of trying to reduce down to 5 cars from 10 I'd snap this up and have a nice road trip home to California. Working AC - what a concept!

Another fly in the ointment for me is I have to go through California's STAR smog check. My '83 Fairmont 2dr sedan failed smog and for a start needed a cat which would be $1000 for a California certified cat to be installed (paperwork, you know). With all the other issues with the car, I turned it in for scrap.

This Cougar would be neat just as it is but to go through California smog, it would be better for it to go to someone living in a freer state.

Bump again for a Cool Cat!
