Does anyone have an illustration of where the crankshaft position sensor goes on a 79 302?
I have looked online but can't find anything.
Thanks for your time!

Are you sure that's what you're looking for? Older Mustangs like ours with distributors don't have such.
1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.

That is really weird. I've never seen or heard of such.

If your car has a crank sensor, it would be mounted low on the passenger side of the timing cover, about where you would expect to find the timing pointer. I found this discussion about timing cover applications on Vintage Mustang Forum: http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/mo...plication.html
I don't remember where it was located, but I did work on a 84 full size wagon that had a crank trigger.
I also had one of those bizarre distributor caps. it was a cfi motor as well.
I got involved when after an engine change they couldn't get it to fire. Found out the crank trigger and the knock sensor used the same connector configure.
They had missconnected the sensors.

If it's a EEC1 system that was on the Lincoln Versailles it was mounted on the bellhousing and triggered by the flywheel, if my ancient memory serves me correctly.
Rock Auto has it for '79 Mustang 302 ingition parts.

The team at Ford were really smart, but soon expunged and trashed all the information with those systems.

Ford had its share of electronic engine control pains like the
rest of Detroit did on the cusp of 1980. This is Ford’s first
attempt at “EEC” in 1980 with a feedback Variable Venturi
(VV) carburetor.
