Default Fuse keeps blowing - help

My dome and map lights are out. I checked the fuse (15 amp) and it was blown. I put a new one in and it blew as soon as I pushed it in. Tried it again and the next one blew. Any thoughts?

This can help locate where the short is.... Pull all of the light bulbs out of the circuit, then try installing the fuse. If it doesn't blow, remove the fuse, then insert one lamp at a time, and see if it blows the fuse. When you get to one that blows the fuse, you know the area to investigate for a short.

There is definitely a short in the system. I would suspect a shorted door switch.

If common sense was common wouldn't it just be sense?

Sounds like a plan, I'll give it a try.

None of the bulbs cause the problem. I've taken all of the bulbs out. If I open either door, or turn on the dome lights with the headlight switch, the fuse blows. So I'm thinking the common link is the headlight switch? Or a short behind the fuse box?

Aren't those snakey maplights notorious for developing shorts?

Hopefully we can put our heads together and get them both fixed. Post what you find and I will too.

I've read that someplace on this site, but forgot about it. So, after reading your post, I removed my maplight and the dome works! No fuse blowing. So now I have to rebuild it, I think there is a thread on it.

    Thanks ZephyrEFI!!!

I removed the map light and started looking at the rebuild link above. I didn't want to take that thing apart or remove the heat welds. So I did an old trick that I learned years ago. I sprayed WD-40 under the switch and pushed the black button up and down to work it in. Re-installed the map light and Voila! Both dome lights and the map light works fine. Problem solved.
