Default If you liked the ghost ship thread, how about a car dealership....

The ghost ship article had me thinking about this. Warning, AMC content. The article is about 2 years old, but a cool read nonetheless......

That's cool I'm an old AMC fan!

I've done a few hot rod Ramblers, Javelins, and CJ Jeeps.

That 360/390/401 small block is a good motor!

Vollmer Motors, the AMC dealer where I grew up is still kickin!

Here are some pics of it as it is today:

There are old Rambler/AMC cars on display in the showroom!

About 4 miles from the Bill Williams AMC location is the home of Vollmer Motor Sales, in New Brighton 15066, just off of RT 65. They were open when I stopped, & the grandson & great grandson of the founder were at work in the service department. They filled me in on the history of the dealership, it goes back to the '30's & started with Nash. They moved a few times over the years, & ended up in the current location in 1979. Like a lot of former AMC dealers, they gave up trying to deal with Chrysler in the late 90's. They currently sell used cars & do service work. There are some AMC's in the service department, a Marlin, Nash Healey, late 60's Amassador, & a Javelin AMX. The family also owns a couple of AMX's & a convertible American.

They are very nice people to talk with!!!!!

I remember that article. It sure looked a lot more deserted in the article than it does now. Maybe that generated some business and they put some work into the place. Doesn't look too bad.

Oh ... my ... gosh! I think I'm still laying on the floor ---- 'cause I know I passed out.

    Did I read this correctly?
Ten years of blog posts, newsletters, and gossip say the place is like 1987 frozen in time, and where untitled cars still wrapped in plastic and bearing window stickers relax as fresh and gleaming as the day they sat on this lot and watched AMC slip from existence.

Does he actually have minty ---- never-titled ---- vehicles?

I think I'm 'bout to pass out again.

Last year we drove my father in law through the neighborhood where he grew up (little farm community far south of Chicago) and as he pointed out houses and people he knew, I asked him about this long half fallen apart building and he said it was a Hudson dealer. I may have to go back and take some pics. Looked like everything was long gone though. No signs or anything.

This looks like a place for American Pickers...boxes of junk everywhere in that garage. Would love to have javelin or two.

What a small world. My Dad is really good friends with Skip Volimer. I used to call on Brighton Pharmacy when I was a salesman. What great people!

My pop is a local doctor for over 40 years and knows the Brighton Pharmacy folks well.

I used to know Leon and worked on his Chevelle SS back in the early 80s.

Even as a youngster I had a reputation as a good tuner....
