Spoke with one of my contacts, a retired Captain from GSP. He remembers the GBI having a 1983 black/black Mustang. He said in fact he rode in it a couple times. If I were a gambling man I'd put my money on this being that car. (This is not however PROOF of it being that car though)... But they could not have been many (if any more) around this area in 83...

    # 1 Mostly (but not entirely) Narcotics and Fugitive agents. My contact's friend was a fugitive agent.

    # 2 They had to have bad guy type cars to blend in. The car this agent had also had dark tinted windows at the time as well.

My contact, has been talking with some other retired Troopers and Agents from that era. They have came to the conclusion this is more than likely NOT a GBI car ( unless it went to another agency after decommissioned ). I am told GBI did not run spot lights as it would go against thier goal of blending in. I was told it was more than likely a city agency such as Atlanta PD or some other large cities in Ga. Hopefully more info will come to light on this cool SSP soon.

Note that there is a 2nd Buck Tag, even though the car was painted a single color. The second tag only lists the DSO number, but I think this is the first early, single-color SSP we have seen that has a 2nd tag. Pretty cool!

Well I've still got this old car. I'm in the process of building a mild 302 to drop in it so I can have one to drive. I'm tired of having 5 or more foxes that don't run lol. I won't be doing anything that won't be reversible (I will restore this car someday) I just don't have the time nor more importantly the space to do it right now. I still haven't gotten the title in my name yet so I haven't been able to get an Eminger report as of yet, but I'll be getting it registered soon and I'll definately post it up if it's available. Just thought I'd give you guys an update.

Can't help with the steering wheel pic but I was curious if you ended up getting the title put in your name, or if you got the Eminger?
    Cheers!

If it were an L model the steering wheel would be different, but yours is a GL so that's the stock non-cruise wheel.

One more question I have is about the wheels. 14" steel wheels were orig. equipment on this car? What could I find them on other than an ssp? Same question about the hubcaps and beauty rings if it had them. I know my 86 ssp has wheels and center caps unique to it.

Steel wheels easily available at PAP in Nashville. Easy to find as same wheels where used on a Fairmont or Zephyr for the 82-83 model years. Just pick the right year car assembled near your car if "dates/codes" on the wheels are important to you.

Steel caps are also easy to find at a swap meet. 2 versions just google search to find out what is correct as far as the paint on the indentations along the top edge of the cap. $5.00/each at a swap at most!

I wish there was a way to know the dimensions. ... I think they were 13 or 14 in rims on the ssp unsure about the other makes...
