This is the door tag on the 83 coupe I bought a few weeks back. Previous owner claimed it was an ex FHP car. It has the 140 mph calibrated speedo, And hole on drivers side a pillar where a spotlight would've been mounted. Please decode. Thanks in advance!

I posted a pic of the one and only buck tag this car has.

It is part of a group of five consecutive P26M (5.0L cope) VINs. DF172424-DF172428 The last four went to Georgia originally after being manufactured.

Are the buck tags still there?

It only has one buck tag that I can see, that's why I wondered if it was an ssp or not. My 86 Utah car has 2.

So it's a georgia car then?

We only know of ten 1983 Georgia State Patrol and that group of consecutive VINs is DF188925-DF188934.

This one is a special order for sure but by whom would be answered might be answered by the DSO buck tag, but you said it's not there. A Marti Report might tell you if it's an SSP. Most of the reports for SSPs says "Special Service Package" on their report.

The paint code on the door tag is illegible. Doesn't look like anythings there.

Best I can tell its a black car. Has a crappy primer job on it now. Door jambs, engine bay, and inside of trunk are black.

It has the certified calibration 140mph speedo, so that a good sign. Does it have any of the SSP holes in the A pillars (spotlights), roof, or trunk lid? No matter what you got one crazy good deal. Even if it's just a Factory V8 notch $400 is unarmed robbery for that car. If its an SSP (which I think it is btw) that might be the deal of 2014.

Congrats, that really is a cool car (and it looks like its in awesome shape)!
    Cheers!

It does have the hole in the drivers side a pillar for the spotlight. Single key for the ignition and locks. And has the hood ground straps. I'm pretty sure it is an ssp as well. I'll get pics of the buck tag tmrw and think I'll order a marti report as well. I did get a heck of a deal on it. I'm happy with the car either way. It's straight as an arrow and no signs of any rust at all. The interior is definately weather beaten, but otherwise in pretty good shape.

Oh, and it has some holes in the trunk lid. Allmost looks like it had a luggage rack or something?

It probably is an SSP but unsure of ordering agency. Could be a county govt. The second (DSO) buck tag would be very helpful in that regard.

It will be interesting to see what the Buck Tag(s) and Marti Report say. Nice score, by the way...

IF this car is a solid color car as it appears to be based upon my conversations with Wayne the car would NOT have a second buck tag.

The early SSP cars (1982-1984) only got a second buck tag IF the car was a 2 tone paint car based upon the research from the .net boys.

I hadn't realized that so I went and looked through all of the 1983-84 Bucks that appears to be the case. Very good point.

The 'normal' buck tag will tell you if it's a solid color car. If this one is indeed a solid color car, probably the last hope to figure out which agency might have originally ordered it is finding a build sheet in the interior somewhere.

Definitely NOT a GSP (Georgia State Police) car. All 10 1983 GSP VIN's are known and the GSP cars were ALL 2 tone cars. Could still be State of Georgia car. Possibly Georgia Department of Revenue (There is a known 1984 Georgia Revenue Mustang), a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) or a local yocal Sheriff.

A basic Marti Report would tell the options and sold to customer and dealer. An Eminger Report on the car if available would be even better!

Actually, Bobby aka kapracing recently found information on a 1983 non-SSP V8 notchback used by the GSP. Here is thread about the car...

    http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=5253

...and here is another follow-up thread with an in-service photo of this solid-color 1983 GSP Mustang (VIN of DF218167):

    http://www.specialservicemustang.net...2&postcount=49

So there were more than the 10 blue/gray SSP Mustangs bought by the GSP in 1983. I'm not saying that THIS car in this thread is a GSP, but I wanted to clarify.
