    Default 84-86 fender issue

Hi i'm new to the forum .....my issue is i recently bought a 86 mustang gt and noticed the front bumper extensions weren't lined up so i decided to take the fenders off to check it out...upon removing the fenders i noticed two things the fender extensions were stretched and didn't fit properly and that the fenders aren't originals....upon some research i learned in 87 ford moved to a fender with a wider opening to make room for the larger 16in rims...so my question is, is there any were i can purchase 84-86 fenders or make my present fender extensions fit...thanks for any help guys

no they changed fenders in 91 to 93 to accept the 16'' tires 79-84 will interchange and 85-90 but 79-84 will work on but some holes will need to be drill to work on 85-90

I am not aware of there being any real difference between the 79-90 fenders. The 79-84 cars did not use fender extensions except on the Pace Car, GT, and Cobra models Starting in 85 all the cars including the base and LX models use fender extensions and therefore have the holes drilled for them.

As stated the 91-93 fenders are interchangeable, but the lower edge of the fender in front of the tire is shaped differently and essentially is shorter to allow more clearance for the 16" wheels which were available that year. You can modify the fender extensions to work if you choose, but that is up to you.

    Good Luck!

Trey's right. No real differences. The newer cars had holes in the fender for the trim in front of the wheel, but that is covered up by trim too.
