Hitch done. Tried to get a pic of how it hooks up. Uses a. 1/2 bolt with a hollow T handle and a 3/8 safety pin, kept in place by the green safety wire. Onto the trailer...

Figured this may be a good place to put the trailer pic....
Where the wood is in the front i have a box for tools and jack and stuff. The rear bar swings to adjust for different tire sizes. Hooks for a strap to go over each tire.
Still some work to do

Nice work. I don't have the fab skillz but am pretty good at design. For my 86 I came up with a completely hidden hitch concept. Going to my fab guy to see whether it's feasible and safe. Tongue weight only needs to be about 200# for a tire hauler, but I need two sets of tires and a little room for a few tools, a bike and/or a Segway. So trailer design will be key too.
Thanks.
I would like to see that. Gonna build a trailer from scratch too?

Guys,
does anyone have some Ford documentation or similar proof how much our Mustangs are allowed to tow?
I need that to have the tow weight added to my car registration papers. Now my papers say 0kg, although there's a label on my right doorjamb that te car can tow 3000 pounds.
I'd love to purchase some 70's caravan to match my 79 Ghia and go on vacation in style to Southern Europe someday...
Thanks,
Hans.
Is it an OE lable? Give them a pic of the lable, i would think that would be proof?

Yep, seems like an OE label.
I can give that a try, but perhaps someone here has some aditional proof to build my case?
I understand from other Dutch people with old US cars with not filled in tow weights (vey common issue here) the goverment people can be hard to persuade to have the tow weight added.
Therefore any help from the forum members is highly appreciated.
Regards,
Hans.
Just saw this... That is an interesting was of doing it, don't think I would have ever thought of that.

These posts are like gemstones for me. I'm making some asbuilt diagrams before making a tow hitch for my 81 3.3 .I'm working out some towing limits for mine...lookes like I can copy the Australian Cortina I6 3.3/4.1 Liter (compact unibody) load ratings, a car with the same GVW and axle loadings to the Foxes.
Three questions.
1. Are both Trailer Hitch pictures, the one below Lee_Iacocca's on http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...with-a-mustang
and stableboy are the same ones for an 86 hatch aren't they.
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/m...eboy/hitch.jpg
2. does anyone have the US recommneded loadings for unbraked and braked trailer hitches for these cars?
( I don't have a factory Mustang/Capri Fox handbook, I've checked all other posts on FEP, but due to the age, no official placarded tow data exist for 79-93 Fox Mustangs. The handbook for the Australian Fords allows a 1.5 ton braked trailer, but it has a very low tonge weight and only 800 pounds of extra weight in addition to tare for passengers and luggage.)
Lastly, 3. how much different is a common Fox 4 94-04 fitting compared to an early 79 to 86Fox
Some thing like this TRAILER TOW HITCH #119416 FOR 94-98 FORD...
http://www.amazon.com/TRAILER-HITCH-.../dp/B00B1EM5KM
seams to have a lot of different mounting conventions to the Foxes
So do the other ones I've seen advertised
The Foxes were designed for the pre 1985 5 mph dodgem bumpers, while the Fox 4's had different 2.5 mph bumper mounts, and the common mounts look to be a lot different. Due to age, there is no longer a Reese Shadow Mount or Harbor Freight kit for pre Fox 4/SN95 two doors,.
I was sort of hoping that being 60% Fox, an SN95 tow hitch would be similar to a Fox Stang or Capri, but it lookes totally different...

Xctasy, sorry I don't have any answers for your first 2 questions. As for the 3rd, I doubt the hitch for a newer one will work on the fox.
I had no choice but to build my own. No one makes a removable one, and no one makes one for my aftermarket bumper.
I used my trailer all summer, I love it. It also seems to draw attention at the track.
Sinister, I assume you are asking about the tint on my blue car? I use to know but I cannot remember, I think it was the max legal tint for Colorado.

Thanks Mike and to one of the original posters of this. The trailer hitch is the toughest part, the body to hitch interface is the issue.
qtrracer, the hideaway hitch, is that a Shaddow Mount.?
That DrawTite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver is indded a commerically avaliable set up that lookes quite okay for low load situations where there are no exhaust fouling, rear apron , fuel tank or wheel well issues.
Item like the Reese Shaddow Mount have dropped off the list, so I thought I'd copy the link so anyone looking for an off the shelf item would see it here.
Our Australiasin Cortina and Ford Falcons ran these as low class hitches, but when they are overloaded like any tow hitch on any unibody, they always ripped the a$$ out of a unibody structure, from the wheel well first, tearing elognated holes and ripping things appart on the pressed steel like it was made from Mozzarella cheese. I darn near took the rear off my unibody 1984 Ford Falcon towing just 2200 pounds of firewood one weekend. One small bump, a cylcic load to the draw bar, and 3500 pounds of unibody was almost scrap.
The SN95 trailer hitches are lengneered more ike Mikestang's, with the pressed steel unibody frame rails the mounting point, and it seams to me an SN95 tow hitch with Mikestang's ends would be the ideal heavier duty kit.
I'm using 2" sqaure box section, and arc wleding mine with 6011 and 6013. And cutting out a section for Charpy testing incase Land Transport down here require engieering sign off and producer testing. I lloked at other members here,
http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...75#post1692975
they tend to weld unibody body parts, and you can't arc weld on Detriot unibody Foxes.

I have seen that style on a Mustang, the small one, and it was tearing the body.
So I assume you are making your own?

Yes, I have to because its required for my public road ride testinmg. (Im a veteren of 20 years of private and World Bank funded Highway Development and Management Model Road testing)
The thing will be a hotchpotch of the 94-98 Ford Mustang Classic Trailer Hitch #119416 with chanes to the ends to fit the Fox outriggers.
i'll only be drawing 2200 pounds unbraked at the most, but some of it will be on gravel in some parts.
