While I have worked on cars since I was in high school (many moons ago) I have never owned a Mustang (although I have greatly admired them)---until now. I recently picked up a 1982 SSP Mustang that I want to restore. It was in storage for more than 10 years so after trailering it home I have begun climbing the hill: Figuring out what it's got, what has been done to it, and what it needs. The first item of business is getting it roadworthy, so I can get it registered, work out some of the cobwebs (and run a few tanks of new gas through it), and get it past the required smog test.

So no doubt I'll have lots of questions and will be looking to this website for help. I'll also offer what assistance I can to anyone else with an early SSP Mustang; I drove the 1982 and 1984 SSP Mustangs when they were new.

I recently picked up a 1982 SSP Mustang that I want to restore. So no doubt I'll have lots of questions and will be looking to this website for help. I'll also offer what assistance I can to anyone else with an early SSP Mustang; I drove the 1982 and 1984 SSP Mustangs when they were new.

Even though the SSP's are not everyone's cup of tea (including me) they have their following and are an important piece of history for the Fox mustang! I admire anyone who takes on these projects. It seems they are more common in the US than up here in Canada but I did see an RCMP one (aero) on Kijiji earlier this year.

Were the 82's the first year of them?
