First off, do you still have the factory speed density EFI? You could either get a Moates Quarter horse that goes into your factory computer, or do what I did on my 86 GT, get the Megasquirt PNP. The Megasquirt has way more features and can do a lot more stuff.

The metal box behind the P/S kick panel is the ECU (computer). If you have easy access, look at the end where the harness plugs in and read the larger, highlighted code - usually a mix of 3-4 characters and numbers - like A9L (89+ mass-air), DA1 (87-88 SD), or VR1 (86 SD 5-spd). You can also look at your throttle body intake tubing. If it runs to the air box with no intervening electrical components (e.g., a MAF sensor), then it is speed density (SD) and unlikely to run well with a typical 347.

Generally, the only SD computer that will accept a chip or the Quarter-horse system mentioned above is the DA1. I believe all mass-air (MAF) systems accept a chip/quarter-horse.
