Removed the K frame and other bits tonight...

Removed the overflow, coil, ignition box, and turbo retard electronics.

Tomorrow I'll work on clearing the firewall...

what are your plans as far as engine? Are you going to freshen up the original?

I pulled my front clip and will be dropping the k memeber on mine soon as well for a sandblast and paint

I've always loved the pace cars, especially the way they designed the front end. I even like the factory wheels, but it would be hard for me to stick with them and give up the extra handling from a more modern set of wheels and tires.

Have a few pics to update

The right front frame rail was shot, so after a few hours of air chisel work the frame rail is literally a pile of rusty ruble on the floor! The good news is we hit solid metal on the shock tower and the frame horn. Next step will be install a replacement frame rail.

I pulled all the interior out and was pleased to find the original seats and carpet in respectable condition for a northern car. I'm trying to keep things as original as possible, some of this looks to be restorable!

I found hay in the spare tire well, together with a coating of clay on the chassis, confirms my suspicion the original owner lived on a Farm.

Among all the change and trinkets under the seats, I found this Tupperware receipt dated 1981 that also confirms my suspicion that the original owner was a woman (who else would never mod a Mustang or beat it to death) thanks Eileen!

Too bad about the frame rail but at least you found it and are fixing it. To have rushed through and not done it you would've kicked yourself!

We picked up a carpet from ACC for our 79 and are quite happy with it. May be an option if yours is faded more than the picture shows.

It was a bummer about the frame rail, it makes for a much bigger project, but also makes it more interesting.

Btw, it looks like battery acid is what caused the frame rail to fail. The older batteries were notorious for leaking. The battery acid ran down into the frame rail and rusted the rail from the inside out.

Just noticed your car says "pace car" on the passenger side and "official pace" on the driver's side. That is weird.
1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.

The car has its original paint and graphics except where they did some rust repairs on the rear wheel lips. They had to remove the lettering from the quarter panels to blend in the paint. Rather than removing the letters they had to and leaving partial words they pulled the entire word from each side. It's been fun rebuilding the forensic history as well as the car itself.

Thanks guys! Both are "spare time" projects that are inching along slowly (est 2 years). No worthwhile pic updates at this time. I'm still in the disassemble and parts gathering stage at this time.

The dissassemble and parts gathering stage is always the easiest!

Good luck and get some pics when you can!

I like this shot as it shows me the same exact area of where I need to remove my P/S frame rail at due to mine having rot also. THANKS!
