    Default Mustang 50th Anniversary

Who is going to the Mustang's 50th anniversary celebration in Las Vegas, NV or Charlotte, NC April 16-20? I'm going (leaving on the 16th) to the one in Las Vegas. If others are going maybe we can drive together as a group.

I'm going to the Vegas celebration too. It would be cool to caravan, but in the least we should have a FEP get together while we are there.
    Cheers!

I am hoping to make the Vegas date. I am working on scheduling right now and hope to have it all nailed down as soon as possible. I would definitely be up for a FEP get together in Vegas or even a possible caravan to Vegas!

For the Colorado guys I'll send out my plans as the date gets nearer. Maybe we could meet in Golden/Denver and take I70 to pick up Trey. If you book a hotel through the website (http://www.mustang50thbirthdaycelebration.com) you can get a few decent deals. I'm staying at the Luxor, which is next door to Mandalay Bay and where I hear some of the night time activities will be held.

186 days and counting.........so start planning ahead.

This afternoon I was looking at the car I had when I was 18; my '83 GT hatch. I was working in the yard and looking for something in the garage, paused, my hand on the corner of its roof and thought; "Wouldn't it be cool to have this on the road again" and then I realized how much yard work I had to do lol

I would love to go (Vegas that is)! My wife isn't showing much interest currently but that may not stop me! My svo is road worthy I think, but if next April is like this past one there will still be salty roads and possibly snowy conditions here I could trailer it I suppose, even part way to meet up somewhere.

My wife has family in Vegas which is great because it saves us on hotel expenses. I'm especially happy because they told me that I can park the 86 in their garage when we come up. That was music to my ears.

I wish I could go to the Charlotte gathering, but I'm glad they decided to do one on this side of the country as well. So many big Mustang shows are on the east coast that us west coasters miss out on a lot just because of logistics.
    Cheers!

I attended the Mustang Club of America's annual "Regional Directors Meeting" on October 12 in Dallas. This meeting is a forum for passing along information from MCA board members to club members via each club's "Regional Director" (I am the Regional Director for the Mustang Club of Houston). The day-long event typically includes guest speakers, for example Donald Farr (editor, Mustang Monthly) and John Clor (Ford Racing employee, writer, and all-around Ford guy) have been recent speakers.

This year's show started off with the following terrific news regarding the 50th Birthday shows in Charlotte and Las Vegas, brought to us directly from Ford reps. Here are my notes:

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Steve Ling, Ford North American Marketing Manager
Jim Owens, Ford’s 50th Birthday Event Manager

The big news is that MCA’s two Birthday events are now also “Ford’s Events.” They have put their full marketing muscle behind the events; “we are coming with our ‘A’ game.” The Ford family “gets it” and wants this event to positively reflect on the Ford brand.

We were shown a powerpoint which illustrated Ford’s plans, as they stand now:

The marketing group has studied other American icons and their birthday celebrations (Harley-Davidson, Walmart, Coke) and is incorporating facets of their celebrations. They have also studied Mustang’s influence on movies, racing, music, and style, and will include these components in displays and activities.

Specific activities are being formulated, but will include some or all of: customer hot laps (using professional drivers), presentations by executives, social media involvement, local TV, interactive TV to tie the two events and the concurrent New York Auto Show, local pony drives, open track, drag racing, poker run, vehicle giveaway, banquet, concerts, drive-in movie, celebrity visits. The event is much more than a big car show.

The Ford display will consist of: full line vehicle display including a ride & drive availability, a section on “Mustangs Moments in Time” (for example, a display commemorating the moon landing in 1969 including a 1969 Mustang); a Mustang Garage specific to Mustangs; and “something on a turntable I can’t talk about.” The Barrett-Jackson Ford display gives one an idea on what components might look like.

A ‘kit’ will be made available for dealers to celebrate year-long. It will consist of a book, DVD, key fobs, posters, playing cards, matchbox cars, banners, etc. Info to dealers is starting now but will pick up beginning in November.

Stay tuned to FordRacing.com: Ford Performance Group (John Clor), for more details as they emerge.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Please note that this should put to bed the rumor that Ford will be having their own separate event in Dearborn during the summer.

If you are interested in more info I would be glad to try to help you out.

    PS I'm going to Charlotte.
